I just heard from a friend the Renaissance is going to charter the R8 to Princess or P&O for use in the German market.
Is this an indication that some changes are coming to Ren.
I have a personal stake in it, because we are going from Venice to Barcela next Spring on the R5.
Has anyone heard anything about their financial condition. I know they are making many changes.

The R8 is being sent to the Caribbean, sailing out of La Romana, Dominican Republic effective October 27th. 2001. Pax will have the opportunity to avail themselves of the facilities of the Casa de Campo resort and will be treated to some lovely shore-side activities. The itinerary is great... especially if you are sick and tired of the typical San Juan, St Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Lucia cruise experience.

P&O is currently building two ships (sisters to Aida)for the German market.

It would not surprise me at all to find the R8 in New York come late April.... ready to set sail for..............Bermuda.

I have done a lot of research on Renaissance because we want to book a cruise on R6 within the next day or so. There is nothing that I saw which would indicate financial problems.

Changes are probably good. Most companies are undergoing changes in order to increase their passenger base. Certainly, it's time for changes in dining and ports.

The concern I have is about REN's cancelling cruises. There were some references to this out on various boards. It's hard to say if this is isolated or what. I'm going to talk to my TA about this before booking.

All the brouhaha on the other boards about Ren cancelling cruises was a result of their pulling the R8 out of Asia for redeployment to La Romana.

I'm not saying the line has been perfect otherwise.... but I think in this competitive marketplace, one has to strike while the iron is hot.

I think Ren offers a nice niche between the Seabourn/Silverseas type of lines... and the mass market lines. I would really hate to see them evaporate into another Carnival/RCCL/NCL.

About two months ago Renaissance was recapitalized. Credit Suisse-First Boston bank increased its holdings in the company and an additional partner was brought onboard, Malvern Maritime, a large London-based shipping company. I don't think you have too much to worry about their financial condition although things may be juggled around a little bit while the new management is putting their action plan in place.
