Four passengers on Carnival’s Imagination were arrested last week for trying to smuggle $3 million worth of drugs into the U.S.

The cruisers, all women ages ranging from 23 - 45, were snagged at the Port of Miami, where Imagination had returned following a western Caribbean cruise to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

Customs officials had sent the women to a second checkpoint because they seemed nervous. That’s when investigators searched their luggage, finding packages of cocaine and heroin stuffed in various pairs of shoes.

The women are being held at a federal detention center in Miami on $250,000 bond -- and that’s apiece, not total. The charge, if convicted, comes with a minimum sentence of ten years in prison.

In Miami in the luggage terminal, they have sniffing dogs. I guess they hid it well that the dogs did not catch it.

Wow cool, I always wondered if they ever caught anybody smuggling via a cruise ship. You would think it would be pretty easy since it seems as though customs is very relaxed at the terminal unlike an airport.

Actually MagnumPI, when I talked to a couple of the agents they had mentioned that they catch quite a few. Most are smaller amounts in the thousands of dollars but they try to keep most of it out of the press which has the end result of many smugglers letting down their guard. And yes you are right lillian their dogs are not usually fooled as I have seen these critters in action. Not much gets by them even when the substance is triple and quad wrapped and sealed.

Keepupthegoodfight!
