Anyone else had problems?
quote:The 'new' improved Olsen web site never seems to work properly on my PC. It also makes my Browser crash.
You will have problems with Opera on it The javascript doesn't work properly and the scrollers don't work at all.
I have emailed them a couple of times about it since they did the new site, but I've had no response. I find the viewing area itself far too small and could easily be double the height which would alleviate the need for the constant scrolling.
They also told me back in Feb that the BlackWatch webcam was being fixed, but it's still stuck back in Oct according to my browser
Pam
I've tried the Olsen site with Netscape and Explorer - it's rather naff, what ever browser I use, in my layman's opinion!
Maybe there will be some good offers available?

It looks like she is berthed next to the Berlin Wall!
I tried a 'Translation' web page to try and read the German text:
"The ship about talk tape only recently acquired and is now on the standard of the shipping company to be brought. Within the area of the after-body so mentioned a " Ducktail " is to be cultivated, aroundthe Stabilit."
I've no idea what that means?

'A streamlined beauty of very advanced, even yacht-like appearance'
I wonder what happened to the original Braemar from 1975 onwards?

"M/S Braemar, built in 1980 for Viking line as Viking Song. Purchased in 1985 by Fred. Olsen Lines, she initially worked the Harwich to Kristiansand, Hitshals and Oslo route. In 1990 she switched ports and started working the Norway service from the Tyne. This service has since ceased and the vessel has been sold." http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/green/goi03/NorthSeaRoute/ships.shtml
This is a very interesting site, with info and pics on Black Prince in her former 'dual guise' too.

I think it might have been before that. One source mentions that the Olsens commenced passenger services as Faerder Limited in 1886 becoming Fred Olsen & Company in 1901.
But another site mentions "The foundations of the present firm of Fred. Olsen & Co. Were laid in the middle of the 19th Century by the three brothers Frederik Christian, Petter and Andreas Olsen, of Hvidsten. Frederik Christian Olsen bought his first two sailing ships, the schooners Johanne Christie and Elizabeth in 1848. He died in 1875 having owned 22 sailing ships.Petter Olsen's ship-owning career began in 1852 with the brig Thilda. In his lifetime he owned a total of 16 sailing ships, besides part interests in several steam-ships. Andreas Olsen bought the barque De Tre Venner in 1860 and subsequently owned five other sailing ships.Petter Olsen's son Fredrik in 1886,took over the management of two of his father's ships. By then the Olsen's had owned nearly 40 vessels."
I also found reference to another Braemar, a 1,297 gross ton ship launched in March 1868, commissioned for use as a feeder vessel for the Allan Line between Newcastle and Norway. Wondered if there was any connection there, but Olsen only lay claim to 2 previous Braemar's, so maybe not.
