Nothing has changed on my Netscape or Internet Explorer. Maybe it is because you have upgraded your IE.

Green,

The forum layout hasn't changed in quite a while. I will be upgrading to a new version when I return from my Maasdam cruise next week.

The "new" features you may be referring to may be the result of your browser upgrade - it now supports cookies and additional javascript functions.

In any event, I'm glad you can finally appreciate the new layout.

Hi green I also updated my browser to enable me to run a tax program and the changes on this site are incredible. All kinds of stuff, too much for me actually. I didn't know this would happen if you updated a browser. I have sites that I have been accessing for ages that I now cannot get into. Crazy.

It's totally different on mine too! I also had to log in, and I did not change anything on my computer ? My old URL didn't work, so I had to find it again on my browser. I use Netscape as usual also.

I too use Netscape and have not done any upgrades and have lots of porblems with the new format. If I don't login my browser gets hung and I have to reboot my PC. Seems to work fine if I login.
Joe, just why did you turn the cookies on?
I think this has something to do with the problems i've been having.

Ok, I've done a bit of research and it turns out that the slowness with Netscape is due to the way Netscape draws/renders tables. The new version of the CruiseTalk software uses more tables to display information and as a result it takes longer for older versions of Netscape to draw each page.

If you are still running Netscape 4.7 some of the browser software (...including the table rendering bit) is six years old. This doesn't appear to be a problem with Netscape 6.0 (although you have to download a lot of extra stuff to get the browser).

Malcolm & Co., what version of Netscape are you running?

I'm running 4.7 on Netscape. Sometimes it is slow and other times it is fine. Really frustrating. I have been switiching back & forth between Netscape and IE and sometimes IE is also slow. Maybe it is time to get a new version of Netscape, but then everyone tells me not to touch a new one - or maybe it was 5.0 that was having problems. What do I know - not that much about computers!

There is an alternative to both Netscape and IE - it's called Opera. It is only 2 meg in size and is designed to support generally accepted Internet standards - that means it is not biased towards Microsoft or Netscape views of the world.

I tested it with the new CruiseTalk bulletin software and it seems much faster than Netscape. Here's the link to download the Opera browser.

This is a 'test' to test the speed of my browser (Netscape).

Joe...when I clicked "Add Reply" to post the message above, it took 2 minutes! That may not sound a lot, but it feels like a lifetime!

This is seriously affecting my posting rate. Other CruiseTalkers may catch up!

Hi...a few years ago I was having real problems and finally one tech told me to dump Netscape and stay with IE. That solved the problem.
But...I've recently got ADSL and oh boy, has that ever speeded things up. Like getting out of the dark ages.
