When you think about it, they will only have 6 ships in a couple of years.
There current fleet is:
SuperStar Leo
SuperStar Virgo
SuperStar Gemini
SuperStar Aries
SuperStar Taurus
Star Pisces
Norwegian Star
MegaStar Aries
MegaStar Taurus

Now that they have announced fleet changes the SUPERSTAR ARIES will leave in 2002. I have also heard that they will be eventuall selling the NORWEGIAN STAR. And if they decided that they will also sell the STAR PISCES for the fleet modernisation program, that will leave them with a fleet of SIX:

SuperStar Leo
SuperStar Virgo
SuperStar Gemini
SuperStar Taurus
MegaStar Aries
MegaStar Taurus

just a thought,
Brian

Don't forget that Star is receiving the SS Norway, and two HUGE new saggitarius class ships from Meyer Werft (100,000+ tons) in the next few years. In the long run what they are doing is smart. With numerous other new asian cruise lines emerging with older ships Star is positioning itself as the only player in the market with new, large, modern vessels. Another thing to consider is the place of NCL in the Star Cruises company. NCL has been a weak player in the largest cruise market in the world (north america), and if they do not strengthen that brand quickly Star may find itself out of north america all together. for that reason a lot of money and new ships are being pushed into north america- it is simply the branch of the company that needs the most help right now.

In my opinion the only risk Star is taking is the new Freestyle Cruising concept with NCL. If that concept fails they are in big trouble- but if star is right, and freestyle is the future of cruising NCL may be the greatest comeback story in the history of cruising. Time will tell.

Skye,

Star never contracted got the new Saggittarius class and I think the handwriting on the wall is pretty clear as far as the Norway is concerned.

If it's old, doesnt work or doesnt make money, get rid of it or shift tonnage. Star reacts quickly to market conditions and they're paring down operations in Asia that aren't earing there keep. They've obviously realized that the greater returns at this point in time are coming from North America and the NCL Group. Yes, they're taking a risk but it seems to be paying off in spades.

Don't be surprised to if you see Star sell more tonnage, the Norway's career to be shortlived (if at all) with them and the Norwegian Sea transferred to Star in Asia in 2002.

Tim

At Meyers Werft they don´t even consider the Saggittarius ships as options any more!

The reason that S. Cruise wants to sell Norwegian Star is that the ship is a wreck.

But the problem with a decreasing fleet:
I,m quiet sure that NCL will treanfer the 40000 ton ship to S. Cruise. This ship starts to be to small for carribean but are perfect for the smaller demands in Asia.

Hi...Star will also be losing the Superstar Aries next spring when she joins Orient as the Ocean Voyager. I heard that they wanted to do it this year but Orient has had so much work to do on the Crown Odyssey after the way NCL had run it into the ground, that they had to beg off.

You chaps sure know the Star Line. We are thinking of an Asian cruise in November. I have the brochure of Gemini. A 10 day cruise would be O.K. from either Singapore or Hong Kong. We are people oriented (sorry about the pun) and have heard that Star has 75% Orientals, generally, which makes for a language problem, of course. Norwegian Wind has not received good reviews (only 2 rcd.)
We are not fuss pots, but enjoy the usual comforts which go with cruising. We are U.K. Canadian and Floridians in equal parts. !!

Hey,
I'm not sure if I'm correct, but is it true that Star Cruises has been leasing one of their ships...SuperStar Capricorn? I think the lease ends in 2 years. I wonder what they will do with her. By then, if they still have the Norwegian Star, that means that they will have 2 of the Royal Viking Sisters!

Just a question. Some of the above comments make reference to the conditions of NCL ships. Do they not take good care of their ships?

I don't think Star Cruises will take back SuperStar Capricorn in the service. Because Star Cruises is meeting a huge problem in operating the old Norwegian Star.

Eric,
what do you think they will do? Pesonally, i think they should make a new brand with the two sisters. It will be great to see them together once again, how ever, they cant have their own names.
Comments?

Some Star Cruises's staff told me that Star Cruises will sell Norwegian Star. Because Star Cruises is meeting some problem in operating her.

I just scanned "Sagittarius-class" vessel's Artist's photo which announced by Meyer Werft Shipyard last year. Here is 116,000grt SuperStar Sagittarius II,

What kinds of problems is Star Cruises having with the Norwegian Star? Friends of mine in Australia said it was a great ship.

The problems that S. Cruise has with N Star is that the ship is a wreck!!!!!!!

She is really badly maintained, not by S. Cruises but by NCL.

As it is right now the officers feels it like a punnichment if they have to make a contract on Norwegian Star.
