So if you had to choose 6 cruise lines only as the owner of a new start-up cruise-only travel business, what cruise lines would you select as your preferred vendors?

I would try to represent lines that cross all three levels of cruising; luxury, upscale and mass market(somewhat above budget). I can't speak on the luxury end of the market, as I've not travelled at that end of the market, so I'll only pick 5 leaving the luxury level cruise line to those that really do know that market. Upscale: P & O for the real traditionalist, Holland America for today's older passengers (55yrs+) and Princess for those seeking a bit more activity and fun. Mass market would see me having Carnival and Royal Caribbean brochures on the shelves. I feel guilty leaving Celebrity off the list, especially since a friend just had a wonderful cruise with them, but I feel their shortcomings outweigh the great food and service. I have no qualms about leaving NCL off the list until they prove themselves again.

I would go very close to the way I already go right now with Carlson Companies:

I would divide the lines I represent into different sectors:

Luxury lines:
Radisson Seven Seas Cruises / Hapag Lloyd
Renaissance Cruises

First-Class Lines:
Celebrity Cruises
Sovcomflot

Middle-Class Lines:
Festival Cruises
PSM Shipmanagement

Like this I have always an international line and a line exclusively for Germans.

As well I would provide special cruises in different sectors:

expedition-style cruises:
Discoverer Reederei / Society Expeditions

sail-cruises:
Star Clippers

adventure cruises:
Far Eastern Shipping Co. / Quark Expeditions

Club Cruises:
Aida Cruises Ltd.

river cruises:
Transocean Tours and Phoenix Seereisen

I think that with this composure of lines in the different sectors, you are able to provide all what you need to run a successful business (at least in Luxembourg or Germany).
If I can surpass the limit of six lines, I would definitely add Orient Lines, ASC StarLines Cruises, Dreamline Cruises and Silversea Cruises.
