I've never been on a cruise and I'm looking to break my duck by doing a short 3-5 day trip out of Florida to the Bahamas (preferably with a full day in Nassau; my cousin teaches there).

Any advice on cruise lines, time of year to travel, personal experiences etc. would be welcomed.

TIA

We did the three day weekend on what was then the Royal Magesty. Just remmebr a cruise can never be bad - sometimes one cruise is not as good as another. We found that coming from New england for a weekend cruise was not for us. things were to rushed. You just got into the swing of things and it was time to get ready to leave the ship. We would not do a three day again, might consider a five day.

If you really want a good feel for a cruise, take one that's at least a week long. The short ones are over it seems before you even open your suitcase.

Keep in mind the time it takes to check in to the time required to depart, mustering and the like, a three day cruise turns into about 1 day.
Soooooo short.

Sailed to the Bahamas in Feb. on Carnivals Imagination, had a great time on this 4 night cruise. It first stops in Freeport
Grand Bahama Island then off to Nassau. The Imagination stayed for 24 hours in Nassau which was plenty of time for us to see the sights. I believe RCCL stops at their own private island and Nassau. I believe I will post a new topic concerning the lack of responce from other registered users.

3 AND 4 DAY CRUISES WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD CHANCE TO SEE IF Y0U WILL LIKE CRUISING. RCCL WOULD BE MY CHOICE OF CRUISE LINE TO TAKE AND THEY DO GO TO NASSAU. THE WEATHER IS USUALLY GOOD ALL YEAR ROUND (HURRICANE SEASON STARTS IN JUNE THRU NOV.). IF YOU TAKE A 4 DAY CRUISE, YOU COULD ALSO STOP AT KEY WEST WHICH IS A FUN PLACE.

We went on a four night cruise on Carnival's Fantasy out of Port Canaveral in April of this year and had a wonderful time. We spent 24 hours in Nassau and about 8 in Freeport. We had a full day at sea with plenty to do. This length cruise gives you a good taste of what cruising is like. The price is reasonable and if you are absolutely miserable, you are not out too terribly long. We want to take a longer one next time.

HAL now is offering a five nighter that goes to Nassau, HAL's private island, and Key West. There are some wonderful deals for these cruises too! If I was going on a short cruise again, I would want to visit Key West. It's a fun island with lots to see and do. Also I would want to go on a trip with the most number of days that I can afford. Four nights are better than three, and five are better than four.

Thanks to all who posted for their responses. The news of the HAL 5 day cruises was interesting...I hadn't come across that in my research. My folks have been on 3 HAL cruises in the eastern Caribbean and found them to be excellent.

Thanks again.

HAL's private island in the Bahamas (Half Moon Key) is the BEST I've been able to visit! Paradise Island and Nassau are both great for shopping. Have a great time and enjoy!

Carnival is doing a 5 night on the Victory in May, and then again in October. She leaves out of Charleston, S.C., and goes to Freeport and Nassau. The Victory's the biggest and newest ship that does these short cruises. It's a good chance to sail on a ship that usually does 7 day cruises only.
