Sympatico, its about that time of year that we engage in the annual topic of winterizing
before you leave on your christmas cruise.
Is your list up to date, or do you or any others from the snowbelt want the suggested rundown again.

OK Topgun - give me the list. I know that this year I have to turn the water off and get a neighbour to check the house every 48 hours; mail doesn't have to be cancelled it can go through the slot in the door; pool was put to bed a long time ago - what else do I have to do?

sread - it's extremely cold here - 22 below O celcius today (with the wind chill) and we have to do certain things when we close up the house for a week, like turn off the water so if the pipes freeze we won't come home to a flooded house, which happened to one of the posters last year.
My daughter called from London this evening and she said "it's hot here" - hot in comparison to Toronto.
I am sure Topgun will explain more than I have.
Hey Topgun - no snow here! So far we have escaped it. What part of Ont. do you live in?

Thankyou Sympatico, I thought you weren't going to ask. I can now demonstrate some of my intelligence.

1 Shut off water at the main inlet. This is normally in the basement in either the left or right hand corner. This can sometimes be very stiff. Don't use a hammer.

2 Open the faucets at the lowest point in the house and leave them open. The best place is usually the wash tub.

3 progressively from the top of the house and working down, open all hot and cold faucets.

That should do it, but please remember to use the washroom before carrying out the above.
Set the house thermostat down to conserve energy. but no lower than 15/16 celsius.
I usually get my next door neighbor to bark one of his cars in my drivway.
Having someone check every 2-3 days is important. Many insurance companies require this.

I'm in Burlington, we have had driving snow and minus 10c temperatures. Its better to stay home and light a fire if you can. Sunday, Jamaica here we come. I am really pleased that I can enjoy life so much

Sorry, sread, my post was very obscure. My refernce was to your TV program "keeping up appearances" Hyacinth the lead character tried to impress her friends by dropping brochures on the QE11 and Oriana. She always referred to her non existent trips as those to the "Caribbeano". Personally I preferred Onslow. He is my role model.

We only have about 7 inches of snow now it is suppose to get -20f by Monday. Sympatico I would suggest you flush all toilets and if there is no heat at all pour some RV anti-freeze into the tank and flush (keep the porcelin from cracking.

How long did it take to teach a car to Bark!

You have a heck of a lot more snow than we have - had a bit last night but hear there is a storm approaching from Michigan - wouldn't you know - we get our snow from the US!!!!!
Wind Chill was -22C this morning (05F). Boy K&K -25F - that is cold.

Will do - water heater is now gas, so I understand that I just turn it down to the "mark". In the east end of TO we didn't get what you guys got in the west - understand that Oakville got 30cm but hear it was terrible driving home around here last night. Glad I was in a warm house.

Stevesan - better get used to us! This is the way we Canucks talk, eh! Surely we are not as bad as Cruise Addicts!

Too bad you are not with us but know you will have a lovely Christmas with your family.

Kevin - we live in Toronto - about a 3+ hour drive east of Sarnia, which is right across the bridge from Port Huron Michigan. However my sister lives in Sarnia and when I talked to her today she said the whole mall had been closed down as they feared more rooves would cave in. She said it is the only decent mall in Sarnia. I feel so sorry for the poor woman who was killed and also her family. So close to Christmas. It was a Hallmark store where the roof collapsed.
We have more snow here than we had all last winter, I think and I hear more is predicted on Saturday evening.
I just hope and pray we get out of Toronto next Thursday and also get out of Cleveland where we have to change plans.
Wish us luck everyone.
