P&O is to introduce a smoking ban in main dining rooms from next year.

=====
Restaurants to become smoking-free zones

December 4, 2000 - Main restaurants across the entire P&O Cruises' fleet are to be declared smoke-free zones from April 1 next year.

There has been a no-smoking policy in the main restaurants aboard Oriana and Aurora since Spring, 2000. On Arcadia and Victoria, smokers have been seated in designated areas of the restaurants.
Now the policy is to be extended to all four ships in the fleet following the widespread acceptance of the Oriana/Aurora trial and positive feedback when passenger opinions have been formally canvassed.

There will continue to be designated smoking areas aboard P&O Cruises' vessels in bars, lounges and deck areas. Smoking is also permitted in cabins.

"P&O is not anti-smoking but mindful of the preferences of the vast majority of our passengers and the trends in restaurants ashore," said Carol Marlow, Sales and Marketing Director. "Our objective is to create an environment aboard our ships that is enjoyed by everybody."
=====

I find myself in full agreement with this policy.

I'm a smoker but I'm happy with a ban in the restaurants. Just as long they leave a gangway clear for us smokers to bolt to the surface for a gasper between courses!
