Sounds to me like a line looking to unload its older ships.

The Spirit, Pride and Legend? Does Carnival think the same names will fool cruisers into believing they are sailing on Seabourn ships at Carnival prices? Next it will be Carnival Caronia or Carnival (fill in the blank)dam.

Interesting point Winner! Carnival probably owns sebourne anyway? Or do they - I can't remember?

I've never cruised on Carnival so I'm certainly not going to 'Bash' them, in fact I admire their success. However, I find their ships to be some of the least interesting of the modern ship.

Even a newbuild like Millennium provoke a lot of love and hate, but the Carnival ships seem to come and go with little emotion! They all seem to lack character.

Or am I talking garbage...

Maybe the 'Glory' and the 'Miracle' will be used for Religous theme cruises?

Carnival had the first 'no-smoking' ship. Maybe the Miracle and Glory are to be the first two 'no devil worshiping' ships!

What will be next, the 'Carnival Celibate'? Now that will not be a 'fun' ship!

Well, Malcolm, you're right in a sense. Carnival's newbuilds don't garner much positive emotion on these boards (they do on others). But look at what Travelpage's own editors said about the Carnival Destiny:

"This is a ship that doesn't have a history. This is a ship that has made history. Indeed, coming in as the world's first passenger cruise ship to register more than 100,000 gross tons would be ample enough a feat to keep her in the record books forever....but, like her size, there is so much more about this amazing ship that ought to keep her in the news for decades to come. While it is true that any student of architecture could easily trace her origins back to her fleetmate TROPICALE, a ship less than a third the size of the trendy behemoth CARNIVAL DESTINY, similarities among all classes of Carnival's Fun Ships abound. But lets talk about the DESTINY, because as amazing a ship as she is, we haven't seen enough written about her. She deserves a greater share of attention than she has already garnered...and with her slightly larger sister CARNIVAL TRIUMPH in service with her, and with two more sisters soon to come, we surely hope that the CARNIVAL DESTINY will be remembered for more than just being their eldest sister, the first ship in this class."

Check out the review -- there are a lot more accolades, and a lot more positive comparisons to the Grand Princess. Indeed, if you read this Board's own professional reviews, Carnival's new ships are considered much more innovative than Princess or RCI. I've sailed on two of them, and they are very impressive.

Malcolm - yes Carnival does own Seabourn and all those "dam" ships also, along with Windstar and last but not least Cunard!!!
I have cruised on the Destiny and thought it to a great ship, the ship was laid out well, easy to get from point A to B, not like some where you have to traverse the whole ship to get to the other end. Have toured quite a few and they certainly do not lack character.
You should check them out sometime, you might be pleasantly surprised. I was!

I am planning on the Carnical Victory in May of 01. Why? it is coming to my home for a five day to the Bahama's. Charleston gets several ship a year docking but they are in transit and the locals can't on board. Should be enjoyable just driving 3 miles to the port and not flying. Give Carnival credit for more departure ports than other cruise line.

And, because Carnival has so many berths to fill you can just take a cruise with a two weeks planning instead of 6 months or more out.

Jwine, Carnival cruises are not really marketed in the UK! There is not a British version of the Brouchure as far as I'm aware?

I don't doubt that the Carnival product is very good. I don't doubt that the 'Densiny' was a very important newbuild. Their ships just don't turn me on - but yes, I should try them!

Malcolm,
I have looked to book a Carnival cruise here, and you are right, there is hardly anything. First Choice feature some of their cruises (very limited, just on the Fantasy I think)in the big cruise brochure (they did last year anyway), and I think Thomson do the same (they both sell ROC and Commodore etc. in the same brochures), and I know Airtours do a bigger selection in their specila Airtours/Carnival brochures, and I think a smaller selection in their Florida brochure. I have looked but found very little.

Paddy.
