My daughter and her fiance are planning a Caribbean wedding next February. As my wife and I enjoy cruising, we were wondering if the wedding could be combined with a cruise.

All our cruising has been with HAL and we know they don`t do weddings on board under any circumstances. Do any of you very well informed posters here know if any of the other "upscale" line have either weddings onboard or can be arranged in port at some point during the cruise?

Are you sure HAL doesn't do wedding receptions on board the ship, before the ship sails? All my cruising has been done with HAL also, and I did see some weddings on day of embarkation, but it was usually people who lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area and it was a while ago.
Also, there was a TV documentary, done on the Statendam, where a couple were on the cruise with their immediate family and were being married in, I think Jamaica. It was very tense for them as they didn't know if they would make it into port and get to the preacher in time. Check this out with Alumni services - 1-800-547-9139. They ask you to leave a detailed message (make it short as the machine stops) and they will phone you back. They don't open until 8am Pacific time - 11 EST, I believe.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Sympatico. Like you, I'm Canadian so the Florida option isn't do-able as most states require you be there for a period of time in order to get the marriage license.
Having visited Barbados, I know they demand you be on the island at least 24 hours in order to get your license (and presumably fill their tourism coffers) so that island is out of the question during a 10 hour port stay.

lambcom - yes, I am Canadian also - saw that by your profile. Maybe Cdns. can't get married on a cruise ship. I know of a couple who went to the islands but then as you say, they stayed there before the wedding. Your daughter may have to think of something else. What if they flew to one of the islands where the ship was going for their wedding and honeymoon and you and your wife met them there for the wedding, then you would have the whole day to spend with them. Just a suggestions.

What about that little chapel at Half Moon Cay? It is in the Bahamas - I don't know what their laws are about residency. It is so small that only a very few people could attend. But what memories it would make....

I own a Canadian Travel Agency and we have arranged marriages from Cruise ships. There are two ships with marriage chapels on board, one is the Voyager of the Seas and the other is the Grand Princess. Without checking with the cruise lines I am not sure the rules as they change but it is not difficult to find out from the different cruise lines.

How about getting married in Vancouver before an Alaska cruise? Last time I looked, Vancouver was in Canada. ;-)

Good idea, James, but think they want a Caribbean wedding. More romantic than Alaska!
By the way Lanbcom, let us know what they decide to do. Maybe we will all be there, if it is a HAL ship!!!!
