Any suggestions for what cruise company would be better for a cruise in the Mediterranean (Italy, Greece). We’re looking to go there for 2 weeks most likely summer of 2002. Looking for a newer boat. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Welcome aboard Maggie. That's a pretty big question!

Have you cruised before? Are you young or young at heart? Are you looking for a more 'refined' experience or a 'party' ship? Are you taking the family? Are you looking for a budget cruise or are you prepared to pay a little or a lot more? Do you fancy a mega ship or a smaller one?

(No boats here!)

Why not look at P&Os Aurora. I have just had some friends return from a Med cruise on her and they had a fabulous time. They had never cruised before and loved everything about the ship and the itinerary.

Hi Malcolm,

We're going on our first cruise in December aboard the Grandeur of the Seas.

We are both in our late twenties, early thirties but are not looking for a 'party' ship. We are looking for the 'refined' experience. I've been to Italy before and want to go back.

For the ship size...a fairly big one is what my husband wants. We were going to go on the Millenium but we wanted to know about other boats out there. We absolutely do not want to go on Carnival.

For prices, we expect to pay a lot so we're pretty much open to anything.

I'm just looking for other boats other then the Millenium. Hope someone has suggestions.

The Grand Princess (third biggest ship in the world) undetakes some interesting med cruises each summer. They offer a pretty refined experience with some nice cabins/suites.

Everyone says that HAL (Holland America) are really good, but they do tend to appeal to older folk.

Aurora cruises tends to depart and return to Southampton (UK)..but please check.

Maggie,

If you're thinking of 2002. You might consider Festival's new EUROPEAN WHATEVER. That is if not worried about the outside look of the ship.

Friends of mine have recently taken a trip on the MISTRAL and they are full of praise for Festival.

Hi. I am literally just back from a Greek island cruise on the MS Seawing with Airtours and although she is 29 years old, it was fabulous. But Mistral would probably be the best choice for a new ship.

Paddy.

Hi-we look the Star Flyer-a sailing ship out of Athens for a 7 day sailing cruise and it was wonderful. A completely different experience in that we sailed to different ports. Star Clippers was lots of fun and we enjoyed it.
