... On a ship?... While on vacation?...

What does this mean? Do I need to bring a jacket and tie? Should my wife bring a dress? What is formal for kids? Is this ususally optional?

I hate it when I get macaroni and cheese on my tux.

Cruise line is Premier.

Normally a dark suit or tux for men, a long dress or evening gown for women and what might be considered sunday best for the kids.
Teens could wear their grad or their semi-formal dresses.
This is all very subjective but the above are a pretty general guideline.

You should be more specific on which Premier Ship you are sailing on, I just returned from the BRB III and formal night really just meant a nice pair of shorts (not really an exageration).

The brochures usually define the dress codes for you - or you could try contacting Premier.

As Caronia stated, check with Premiere. I have a booking with them later this month, and did just that. Check their internet site, and contact them from there. Name the ship - and they reply quickly.

Good cruising!!

I assume it does indeed depend on the ship. On a "Grande Dame" like the Rembrandt, there were quite a few formals (including me and my wife). There is something about the ambiance of the dining salons in a really classic ship that calls for formality. On the recent, sold-out (Didion) cruise to New England and Canada, I would have prefered more. Still, I got more mileage out of my bought-for-the-millenium tux. But on these floating Holiday Inns which infest the Carib these days, just shoes would probably be enough!
