My wife & I are taking my 81-yr old mother on a cruise to the Western Caribbean in January. I have narrowed down my choices to either the Celebrity Millennium or the Holland America Maasdam. Kindly provide your opinion.

Holland seems to cater to an older crowd. We have been on 2 Holland cruises. We are in our 40's and we were one of the youngest couples. I like to take a quiet cruise once in a while and Holland is it. Very few children and no long lines.

Make it the Maasdam.....a wonderful ship,
spacious, easy to find one's way around, an
all-around great cruise experience. Your
mother will be happy. The Millennium is too
large and too many pax for my taste.

Even though I´m an ex-Celebrity, I also agree with NAL. Take the MAASADAM. For older people she´s a better ship. She´s smaller and might be more comfortable for older people.

I have cruised both lines several times, and find them both VERY good. The weakness, for me,with Celebrity seems to be that those that organize the passenger side of the cruise are very poor at their job (could not organize a drunk is a brewery!). For example: dedicating a tender to just shore tour #7 with 15 participants, and letting it sail to shore with over 100 empty seats while 500 lined up in the stair towers awaiting a chance to tender. Could not the remainder of the seats in the tender been made available to those lined up? The weakness with HAL for me is the lack of good comedians; a very small item as I do not rely on entertainment to make a cruise. Hands down, I would select HAL over Celebrity while they are very close to each other in my mind. Why not a Princess cruise in your plans, as they too are ranked close to the above 2 lines?

I found Celebrities organization to be excellent!

Whenever I can't decide, I let my wallet make the choice! Check out the prices of both lines/cabins, your mind may be made up for you! (Unless money is no object - which is rare in my case).

Having travelled with both lines, I agree that HAL would be a better choice, do to the size of the Millennium. However, as far as organization, Celebrity is one of the best lines I've ever sailed on. HAL does half a wonderful ability to cater to the needs and desires of the elderly. I don't think any cruise line does it better (IMHO).
