All of the above have several peoples opinions, both good & bad.
I've been on 5 Princess cruises, 2 on the Crown and can't remember them charging extra for ANYTHING that Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, or Norwegian also charge for. ie: Liquor, wine, sodas, mixed drinks. I've heard that they charge for special (Hagen Das) ice cream but I never saw it.
I certainly never saw any charge for any kind of food anyplace!!!!
Tips for waiter's service in "alternative" dining facilities are rightfully expected on all the ships/lines where I've availed myself of that service.
The standard non-balcony cabins on the Crown are the largest (199 sq. ft.) of all Princess ships. As a matter of fact they are larger than any non-balcony, non-suite cabin on Celebrity, RCI, or NCL (except Norway and I wouldn't recommend that.)
I see from the above replies many disagreewith my opinions, but I report it as Iexperience it.
As I stated above......you do not have tobuy anything that you do not wish to buy.I also said pax are badgered to buy ALL DAYLONG......with constant announcements madeabout this and that for sale, specials onthis and that and the like. The dailyprogram is FILLED with stuff that is forsale. We obviously have a very differentidea of what cruising is all about. I alsostated I report it as I experienced it andif your experiences have been different, Iam happy for you.
I have been on the Crown Princess, and there is a small forward facing open deck that you can view right over the bow, also there are windows that you can view forward from the "Dome" as well, although not as good as on this small deck.
Regards
gohaze - I agree, who wants to eat all that stuff after dinner. If you are really starving, you can always order room service. I never thought much of the buffets anyway, I'd rather hit the pizza place.
Yes a very valid point, 1600 passengers and one small open deck, however when we were on the ship, for some reason passengers never seemed to find this deck, or either it was too windy, when we were on it there only seemed to be about half a dozen people on it at any one time, and sometimes we had it to ourselves which was nice.

I think you are correct....few find theforward deck on Crown/Regal Princesses....except during the Panama Canal trips....forsome reason its existance becomes known. Iagree that it's normally too windy on a foredeck, but not in the Canal. The ship'smovement is so minimal that barely a breezeis felt which is actually unfortunate inthe intense heat and humidity of Panama.
I wish you continued happy sailing and lookforward to your contributions to this site.
Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated. We are lucky to have a forum such as this so that we can share the passion we have for ships.
Some of us were either too young or just not able to experience the pleasure of sailing on some of the grand liners of old, so its your input and first hand knowledge of these ships which is invaluable to us not so fortunate.
You seem to have a preference for the French ships, maybe you could put in a post like Terry does listing details and your experiences if you have sailed on any of them., I am sure there are many of us would gladly read anything that you had to say on them.
By the way the "Century" has a great forward viewing area, one great memory is cruising into Stockholm past thousands of small islands, it was completely flat calm, sunny skies, about 6.30 am hardly anyone around, it was quite eerie actually at how quiet it was, and how slow the ship was moving.
Cheerio
I thank you for your kind words as well. You are correct.....I did love the FrenchLine.....there was something quite extra-ordinary about the food, service, andatmosphere that made them very special. Iwas lucky enough to have sailed on Liberte,Ile-de-France, Flandre, France many timesas a child and later as an adult. I am verygrateful to my parents and grandparents forthe trips while growing up.I am also a great fan of HAL and believethey provide the best cruise experience outthere today. Of course it's a very personalthing and there are as many valid opinionsas cruisers. The Scandinavian cruises are quite wonderful.I enjoyed your description of your Stockholmarrival. I've sailed into Stockholm twiceand missed it both times because of earlyarrivals and found we were tied up by 7am.Continued good sailings!! Any trips soon?
I didn't plan to write a review on our trip but, would be pleased to answer specific concerns. There are many good writers (I'm not one) like Scottylass who gave me an excellent email before we left. She was right on track. Since we all have a different view I would prefer responding to individual topics of interest. Ask away and I will express my point of view.
NAL we are due to go off on P&O's ship Aurora in two weeks time, I am counting down the days now. I will be writing a review and will let you know when its done. Hopefully I will try and make a few posts from the ship. Even although it had some misfortune on its maiden cruise, the reports from the people who have cruised on it are saying only good things about it.
NAL Thank you for sharing some of your experiences with us, think about what I said earlier, that there could be a category like was mentioned in another post by Vaccaro.
Skyhawk glad to hear that my review helped you a little whilst on your Baltic Cruise, it is a very good itinerary isnt it...
I envy your Aurora cruise.....I have wantedto take another P&O cruise for many years, but that has not been a reality yet. I havesailed Canberra once and Sea Princess [nowVictoria], but no other P&O ships.I will be eager to read your review. Haveyou sailed the new Oriana so that you'll beable to compare????
Happy sailing!!!
