Hi there,
its been a while since I visited this forum and can't remember the last time I posted anything and had to register again, but hopefully you all will help me out....

I am looking for something different in a cruise line rather than the packaged "luxury experience" all the biggies like Princess, Celebrity, RCCL, Carnival etc. try to provide....not afraid to try different like Costa, Crown, Royal Olympic even something very inexpensive like Premier or Commodore....my wife and I are mid forties, like to have a good time (but like to remember everything we did )..not afraid of adventure and would roll with the punches and tend to make the best of everything. Any advice for 5-10 day Caribbean Adventure on the relatively cheap? We did Sitmar on a 10 day deep carribean a long time ago on the Fairwind (now Albatross?)...best cruise ever...and have taken half a dozen since including the Zenith thru the Canal. Any help is appreciated.
thanks,
tom

I am also looking for a different cruise experience.

I think next year we are gong to try a Wind Jammer Cruise. They go to alot of small, exotic ports that are not accessable to the large cruise ships.

They are very informal and look like fun.

Has anyone been on one. My guess is that you really feel the ocean in those small sailing vessels.

Try the Windstar ships - I had a tour of the Wind Surf last year when we were in Martinique and it was lovely. Small, very casual, no jacket/ties required, staffed by HAL crew, lots of free water sports equipment, they go into smaller islands. I really liked it and hope someday to try one. My TA is leaving tomorrow for one of the Wind Ships in the Med. They sound great. Look them up on the internet. They are usually in a port during the day, sail late afternoon to the next port. They are in the Caribbean, Med, Tahiti, etc.
Friends were on one a few years ago and they really enjoyed it, especially not having to dress up for dinner every night.

If you are REALLY looking for something different: instead of the 'sunshine' type cruises, why not try something a little more adventerous?

How about a Transatlantic trip on the QE2 NY to Southampton (or vice versa)? There are some bargins available on the lower cabin grades. Then there is Europe - such as the Baltic or Norwegian iteniaries. A number of smaller, 'classic' ships such as Fred Olsen's 'Black Watch' offer some excellent deals.

Lets not forget Alaska and prehaps the ultimate adventure, Antartica, on the Marco Polo - although the latter is far from cheap!

Finaly, there are the river cruises - the Nile or maybe the Russia Waterways, Moscow to St.Petersberg. You are only limited by your imagination and bank balance!

I agree with Sympatico.....try Windstar
Cruises.....I liked the original name
better.....Windstar Sail Cruises....they
are wonderful.
If you do not object to an older British
crowd, you might try P&O's Victoria or as
suggested above, Fred Olsen's Black Watch.
The French inspired vessel Mistral may also
be of interest. A fall New England/Eastern
Canada trip on the Maasdam would be my
choice.

Winstar sure sound like a lot of fun, but for a completely different onboard ambiance apparently Costa are wonderful. Then again, Malcolm's suggestion of Antarctica on the Marco Polo sounds rather more interesting than "Caribbean East/Caribbean West".

Enjoy.
