How limited are u with cruising with a toddler? I will be traveling with a 16 month old baby in Sept and after looking at Itinerary's , it doesn't seem as if I can leave the ship? Do they allow toddler's in the dining room or do u eat in the alternative restaurants/room service? I will be on HAL/Ms Zaandam in Sept and would love some feedback as the Cruising with Children forum is pretty inactive. Thanks Diane

Hi Dedere - You are a brave one sailing with a toddler. You are going to be run off your feet chasing her around the deck. Have fun.
Yes, they do allow children in the dining room, but I would take first seating. Try it the first night and if the little one acts up or gets restless, as you know they do, you may find it easier to eat in the Lido, which is much more casual. She may be fine in the dining room so just try it out. Good Luck

Most ships do have babysitting services available that would let you have a quiet dinner in the Main Dining Lounge. This way you might be able to feed you baby in the Lido during the early dinner sitting and then usae the babysitting service while you have a quiet dinner for yourself during the late sitting.

Dedere We took our 16month old with us on the Century back in 96 and we had a fabulous cruise. We had 1st seating and we made it through every meal with no problems. The entire staff of the dining room loved having children,(they miss their own).We just took along some baby food but she ate soup, fruit, and pasta also.I wouldn't go on a cruise without her and never regretted taking her.She just experianced her 5th this past Feb.and waiting for the next.We did take her off the ship in port to the beaches and towns. If we can help answering any other questions just ask.Be sure to bring along the video camera.

Dedere,

I think you'll enjoy your cruise with your child. Here are a few brief points:

1. Request a crib for your cabin.
2. Request favorite baby foods or cereals in writing (if your baby is still eating these.)
3. On HAL, line up babysitting at the front desk as soon as you board the ship. There are no formal babysitting services for children under the age of five, but some of the front office crew do it in their spare time. There are a very limited supply of babysitters. We usually feed the kids at the Lido, and then have an adults only dinner in the dining room.

Have a great time on your cruise!

Corinne
