Have you all heard about the Norwegian Cruise Lines contest? Go to thier web site and there will be a place to fill out an on line form. The new ship will be called Norwegian______ ? You are only allowed one name idea. The winner gets a free 7 day cruise, for two! Send in those ideas! I thought about maybe Norwegian Star, because of the new ownership, but there was already a ship called that. Good Luck to you all http://www.ncl.com/index1.htm

We picked NORWEGIAN SUN and NORWEGIAN EMPRESS. Both are pretty
good. The SUN is a reflection of the
days when they had the SUNWARD and
SUNWARD II. I saw the latter in the
early 80's and I thought it was beautiful.

I agree. That's not particularly fair to our fellow cruisers who might hail from other nations. Although I made sure I posted my recommendation!

Beware NCL: First place prize is a 1 week cruise; second place prize a 2 week trip; and third place prize a life time of cruises with the worst food and service available on any vessel serving the North American market, all served on a poorly designed vessel probably rejected by all major cruise lines, with acres of soggy astro turf or slippery composite or plastic decks (no teak here) with cheap metal railings. A real Motel 6 gone to sea!!. Is it any wonder they have been in such bad financial problems for years. You almost have to have them pay you to sail with them. Name their ship for sure, but wait until someone improves the product before spending your money. Perhaps the fact they don't accept entries from non U.S. residents is a blessing!!

Canadians Unite - do not cruise NCL. - have you checked the Rules?

"If UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE, entries must be signed by parent or legal guardian. NCL is not responsible for lost, delayed, misdirected or damaged entries.
"ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to all residents of the U.S.A. EIGHTEEN (18) YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Employees of Norwegian Cruise Line, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and the families of each are not eligible. Void where prohibited by law."

Isn't it true that in Canada all the cruises on NCL and other cruiselines are purchased thru wholesalers rather than the cruiselines themselves? Is it possible that this is why Canadiens were excluded?

geno-r; I've sailed with NCL on 5 occasions, and found that on the last 2 that the standards had slipped; to the point that their product was inferior to that offered by their direct competitors, RCI and Carnival. The irksome items were in themselves not a great deal, but all combined they presented as image of a product on the rocks!! Things like only 2 shrimp on an appetizer, fish-probably hake-packaged and presented as crab (readily admitted to by the maitre'd), canned as opposed to fresh fruit in many salads, and poorer cuts and grades of meat are all signs of a limited food budget. As well as that, there were signs of deferred repairs such as decking patchs-not repairs, missing tiles from pools, patched carpet in high traffic areas rather than relaid material, and a general sense that there was inadequate staffing or budgetting to keep the vessel looking good. This is all new to NCL in the last few years. I truly wish they would turn things around, as the Norway is a wonderful vessel, and money well spent could vastly improve the Wind and Dream.

Grant....I agree with you. I have found during several of my ship inspections of NCL ships that there is a lack of attention to details. The food has never really been that good on NCL, the service, with all those Jamaicans....yeah mon, Ire Mon.. is poor. There is a lack of training with the waiters, they lack finese, but they can sure balance those trays. Uniforms were often in need of a wash and some of the waiters needed to learn how to use deodorant. Entertainment was ok....NCL usually did well with their entertainment. NCL, like a bigger version of Premier Cruises seems to lack direction and image. The best thing NCL has going is their sports afloat programs. I wish NCL would improve, because I'm a fan of this cruise line. They were there at the beginning of the cruise boom and made some great moves with the purchase of the Norway, but somehow they lost their drive and slipped behind Royal Caribbean and Carnival in the Caribbean market. Let's hope for the best with this cruise line. Let me be the President of NCL and you'll see some cool changes and advancements.
