I ran across this article about us cruise lovers today.
http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/travel/Crabby/crabby.html

What do you think of this opinion? Are we fanatics, or just passionate? My vote is passionate. Whatever your view .... let it be known.

thank, darrell

I would tend to agree on that one. I couldn't get a feel for whether the person who wrote the article has ever actually cruised, though. If the case is that this person has not cruised, then I can at least understand where he is coming from, more or less as an outsider looking in who cannot grasp the concept.

I would have to agree. I am passionate about cruising. I began cruising in 1987 when I was six. Now I am 19 and have been on ten cruises and work in a travel agency because I like selling cruises to others. I don't think I am compulsive and I totally disagree with the psychologist. She needs a cruise and maybe she will change her view.

Hmmm...well Chuck Wideen does sound a little bit fanatical! I suppose there is a fine line between being fanatical or passionate. It just depends where you draw that line? Anyway, cruising is a harmless persuit...so lets just enjoy it!

I agree with nycruiser. I think the psychologist is out to lunch. I just lost my husband and I am not running off on a cruise to drown my sorrows, in fact I don't know when I will take another cruise as it will be my first time in 18 years that I will go by myself. We were not fanatical about cruising, just loved it and loved the life on board the ship - couldn't care less about the Caribbean islands - when you have been to them as many times as I have you tend to stay on board and just relax. Love the days at sea.

Well if I'm going to be a fanatic, I'm glad it's about something as important to our culture as ships. Without them there would have been no exploration of distant lands and no mass migrations of people. The great ships were even credited with shortening World War II. So for me, it's not so much about cruising (although I do love to cruise) it's about the history and feeling of adventure you have onboard a ship, even on the big Mega ships.

Oh well, there are a lot of worse things to be fanatical about.

So everyone stand up and proudly proclaim yourself a Ship/Cruise Fanatic!!!!!

Happy Sailing!!!!

Gee, I haven't had a traumatic event in my life and I love to cruise. My children are grown and doing well, and I have been happily married for almost 31 years. I love the so called empty nest so that's not a problem either. The psychologist is going to have to do better than that if she wants to label repeat cruisers as "ill." Where else can you get everything in a one stop package? She must have something against living the life of luxury for a few days at a time!

I think psychologist Judy has a problem - many psychologists do - they have to find a problem to stay in business. She should take a cruise.
We love cruising - have never thought of it as being 'passionate'. My first sea voyage (trans-Atlantic) was when I was about 6 - since then I've always been willing to travel by ship - the more sea days the better! I married a navy guy - he loves to cruise too - I'll go with Will - List me as Ship/Cruise Fanatic!!!!! It's wonderful to 'escape reality' for a few days - wish we could afford to indulge ourselves more often.
HAPPY CRUSIN' GUYS!
