I live in London, UK:

I could fly to Miami and cruise the Caribbean, and even spend a week in a hotel for less money that I could cruise to Europe for a week from Southampton, returning to Southamton!

European Cruises seem overpriced! I suppose its supply and demand/competition?

I'll take a stab at trying to answer this one. The European market is a new one and cruise companies are just starting to expand into this market. At this point I believe it is so expensive because of the newness of the market and also the high price of traveling in Europe. Europe hasn't been a cheap place to travel in a long time, and the cruise lines reflect that

Hmmm...yes I'm sure that is part of the reason. However, us Europeans are often forced to pay high prices (price fixing is wide spread). For example at the end of last year I noticed that the NCL web site was offering 2 for 1 deals on ALL their cruises, if they were booked early. This included the European ones! when I phoned them up, they said yes, but it only applied to US customers! Explain that? I had to pay full fare on the same cruise!!!

US customers oten pay in dollars what we pay in pounds for 'white goods'. For example you might buy a PC for 699 Dollars, we pay 699 Pounds for the same PC (1258 Dollars!)
The differance is not all due to tax, rates and import duty!

Hi Malcolm - you might try exchanging Canadian dollars for US - $1.50 Canadian for $1.00 US - your pound is also very expensive for us - approximately $2.40+ for £1.00 - sure adds up.
Whilst visiting UK I've seen the deals you get to the US - we sure don't get them in Canada - take avantage of it.
It's only money and you can't take it with you!
