Hi,
Two families with teenagers sailing to Bermuda from Boston on ncl Majesty. Our boys do not have suit jackets- do I need to get them or may they dress in shirt and ties? Any other tips about the ship or Bermuda? Shore excursions for snorkeling or better on our own? Thanks, Sandy

Sandy,
My husband and I took our boys to Bermuda on NCL 2 years ago. They were 16 and 12. I wasn't about to go the added expense of purchasing suits or sport jackets so they just wore shirts and ties. There was never a problem with that and they looked GREAT! Have a wonderful time, it's a GREAT family vacation!

I've sailed to Bermuda on RCCL - Song of America. Bermuda is a great vacation! My husband and I ventured out on our own and found it cheaper than the excursions offered from the cruise lines. Definately go to Horse Shoe Bay for great snorkeling - they rent snorkel equipment there. Also in St. George, Tobacco Bay is a great spot to go snorkeling. Jobson's Cove is beautiful also - more for swimming in private coves. The perfume factory is interesting and the flower gardens at the perfume factory are beyond beautiful. You may also be interested in seeing Crystal Caves - underground caves with underground lakes. We are going to Bermuda again in Sept. on Celebrity's Zenith out of NYC.

Thanks for your replies. I can't wait to go. I hope we have good weather so the kids can snorkel. Did you rent Mopeds? We did years ago and I think probably it is busier now. The older kids want to but is it safe? Sandy

Sandy,
If you are going to rent mopeds, do it while you are docked at St. Georges (if you do dock there). To rent them while in Hamilton would be taking your life in your hands! It's crazy driving over there. My 16 year old son was disappointed that he couldn't have his own moped. They only rent to licensed drivers. Does your ship dock in Hamilton? I wouldn't recommend a cruise that doesn't dock there, some don't.

I wouldn't rent mopeds if I were you. They are way too dangerous. When we were there, we saw many accidents, some serious. There was three passengers from our ship that ended up with broken bones and noses. The driving is crazy there. We opted for the public bus transportation and a few times took a taxi.

Hi folks,
Well- we are booked on the Norwegian Majesty which docks only in St. George. I prefer a not so busy area so I think this will appeal to us. Tobacco Bay is supposed to be good for snokelling and if too busy I have heard that St. Margarets is around the corner and less crowded. Have you been there?
I have three children with licenses- 19, 17, and 15 years old. I'm sure my oldest will want to rent a moped- he has had a dirt bike and motorcycle. Kate is 15 and just received her license- yikes. Tim is 17 and has driven his own car since last summer. I don't know.
But thanks for the opinions. Sandy

Don't be put off because you only dock in St. George, that is my favorite part of Bermuda!. Great snorkling, cozy pubs, and much less crowded than Hamilton. Be very careful about renting mopeds, they are very dangerous and fatalities do happen. Remember, you drive on the left side of the road, and Bermuda has lot of traffic circles ( they call them round-a-bouts) where the right of way is who chickens out first. When I visit Bermuda, I get a bus pass, which is also good for ferrys, and their transportation system is excellent and safe. Have a great time !
