Wow what an amazing video! At 14.17 in the video they show the door to the Normandie Suite...the name plate on the door, Normandie, was given to John Maxtone-Graham as a gift, and he has it framed on his wall, beneath the artwork for his Normandie book cover.

Ernst, Thanks for sharing! I have watched many of your videos...great footage! I just discovered an old super 8mm film that my father shot in 1979, while we were exploring the SS United States in Norfolk, with the Hadley people onboard. It will take some time to edit something together from that footage.....the quality isn't that good unfortunately, so I would augment the video with the many photos I took during my 1979 and 1986 visits aboard the ship.

Thanks for the feedback - highly appreciated.
Of course, my footage of SS Rotterdam is not nearly in the same league as the treasures you meant but I hope that it helps spreading the word that it is indeed worth to visit her at Rotterdam.

I am looking forward to see your footage.
It's unfortunate that her original interior were not saved but I admit that I changed my mind a bit about whether something reasonable could be done with her after visiting SS Rotterdam - it's of course still a challenge just because of her size.

I was onboard when she still had her original interiors. On my second visit, however; much of her loose fitting were stripped, but she still at least had her original decor. There was stuff strewn everywhere, most of the staterooms were stripped of the furniture and cabinets. I did manage to find a rare item in her bakery....a wooden oven scrapper. It's one of my prized collection from the Big U. I'll try to get that Big U footage edited and posted soon.
