Hey, I am excited :-)
Some facts stuck in my mind: Can carry 43 cars, 142 items to choose for breakfast, 3 Libraries, a writing room steward, Bouillon served on deck, horse racing game every other night, tax free drinks and Le Havre boat train.
Memories of a bygone era where the turnaround between voyages was measured in days rather than hours.
The horse racing was a social activity on most liners of the day, but there was one ship where they had something a little bit different in the 1950's. The ship was Lloyd Triestino's MV Africa where they had turtle races featuring live turtles instead of horse racing. The turles were owned by the ship's purser. I travelled on Africa's running mate MV Europa, so I never got to see them because the other Lloyd Triestino ships had the standard horse racing.
