The announcement triggered immediate speculation over whether the coming takeover of NBC Universal by Comcast had anything to do with his departure. NBC has denied that the move had anything to do with the impending takeover, New York Times reporter Bill Carter told CNN's Anderson Cooper.

In reading the Daily Kos ... the takeover by Comcast is the reason MSNBC ended its relationship with Olbermann.

Comcast to quell the dispute with FOX and friends got rid of the pain in Fox's side. And Olbermann lost his show.

We'll see what happens next.

Yes, conspiracy theorist are in overdrive. This from CNN:

The decision to fire Olbermann was reportedly one of the first decisions made by Comcast, who recently became the majority share holder of NBC and NBC Universal.

Possibly continuing poor ratings at MSNBC are the real reason. CNN is also in the tank w/FOX News Channel like it or not blowing them both away in the ratings (and of course advertsing revenue) department.

Comcast may want to shake things up and attempt to compete w/FOX News Channel in at least one time slot. It's of course all about money and ratings in the end.

It seems Comcast will agree to the ridiculous demands that they provide 2.5 million people with internet for $10 a month and provide laptops to all for under $150 but they can do what they want with MSNBC...hopefully changing the programing to GSN 2. If they don't I want my internet and cable bill reduced.
