A 'must see' Ken Burns documentary starts tonight (9/28) on PBS called 'The Tenth Inning' and runs for two nights (9/28-29).

Tonight's episode has a lot about the Montreal Expos and how the player strike in 1994 deprived them of their best-ever chance to get into and win the World Series. After 1994 they went downhill and now are known as the Washington Nationals.

Speaking of Washington, both editions of the old Washington Senators (Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers) are in the American League playoffs this year and could meet in the ALCS.

While we're on the subject of baseball....as a long time Atlanta Braves fan (I'm talking from back in the 1970's folks in the days of Phil Neikro and Biff Pocoroba), it sure is going to be sad seeing such a class act like Bobby Cox retire. It might be a stretch, however; as a very biased fan, I don't know that baseball has ever seen the likes of such a manager....nor see such a competent winner in the dugout ever again. With any luck, Bobby will find a way to get this team to overperform, like he has so many other teams in the past and play a few more games in the month of October. GO BRAVES!!!

JohnHJ: Having been born in Atlanta and grown up there in my teen years, I too have been a Braves fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I remember well the iconic Fulton County Stadium, and the day it was razed to the ground.

I really enjoyed re-living the memories and controversies played out in the first installment of this new two-part documentary. Ken Burns has a way in the art of making documentaries.

There is nothing in the world more American than that of enjoying, better yet being at a baseball game, having a couple of hot dogs, and soaking up the feeling of just being there.
