Just curious how many CTers have a cat? We just had to say god bye to our Ragdoll after 22years. Cats these days live longer lives with 17-20 yrs commonplace. It's very difficult losing a pet especially after so long a time.
If you have a cat please tell us about it. Cats have become the number 1 pet over dogs.

Sad to hear that.
22 years are indeed a long life for a cat.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your pet--that is certainly a long time to have a cat, which makes the attachment all the more stronger.
Just know that you gave the cat a wonderful, long life, and that you'll have the memories.

I've always been a dog person, currently with a 12-year-old Beagle, but we are also on our second cat, a 1-year-old female. Our other cat died at age 8 of pancreatitis.

It's interesting watching the dynamics of how the cats have gotten along with the dogs (they're all indoor pets) and I must admit to developing a certain fondness for the cats, admiring their traits which are different from dogs.

We have had a cat in the house for over 30 years so at this point it is very strange and lonely not have a furry friend even after just a few days.
Memories -- yes our Ragdoll(Indy) surely went 500 miles. He was over 20lbs and more like a dog than a cat. I taught him to sit up and shake hands(paw) just like a dog. This breed is very docile-do a Google to find out more. A great indoor cat.

((((HUGS))))) to you on your loss, I know the feeling and it's not too unusual for a cat to live that long. As long as you keep the sweet baby inside. I had to have my 18 yr. old Snowshoe put down due to kidney failure; it was not due to the bad soft cat food earlier this year. Her heart beat was just as strong as always. This is Bianca:

And these are the furkids I have now:

I'm glad I have them, Regina, Suzie and Bianca were around before my husband passed on. Aristotle or Ari and my new Bianca came into view just this year. Ari and Bianca get along famously.

Our cat Piglet passed away 6-years ago at 18 years-old and I was a MESS when it happened! I was in college when I got her and loved every minute we had her. She was a beautiful ginger and white Tabby and so full of love and acted just like a dog at times. Betty White (a fellow animal lover) saw a picture of her on her 17th birthday (Piglet's-not Betty's) and told me to go home and give her a big kiss from 'Aunt Betty'. Even though we have a wonderful yellow Lab (Dakota) now there is still a special place in my heart for my Piglet.

I am so sorry for your loss .

We had to euthanize our cat Sheba this August. She was dying from kidney failure. She was really a member of the family, so it was a very, very sad day. And it was my mom's birthday and the two of us were leaving for a trip to France that weekend. Whenever we saw a cat on that trip we could hardly maintain our composure .

We have two rabbits that my mom rescued (on separate occasions - one we have only had since last month), but it is still strange not having Sheba around.

Frosty I am really sorry about your cat.

Like Rich I am a dog person ( 2 dogs, a pug and a mut) but I also love cats a lot. I had a cat a long time ago named Bonkers. He was so crazy! He would jump in the air and flip and then run around. He would also bring home friends for dinner, like raccons and squrrels. One night we found him with a whole family of raccons, all of them eating out of his food bowl.

I am hoping to get a cat again soon.

Sorry to heard that Frosty.
22 years! For sure, that's a long life and, considering your post, I'm sure an happy one for your little companion. Beautiful memories should be what remains after the present sorrow.

This is Caline, a 15 years and 3 months old female, with me since the age of 2 months:

Sorry about Ragdoll, Frosty4; a good long life. I have had many cats over the years, but only been owned by one, Nemo, now 4 years old without such a comfy bed as Caline, she prefers weird places to curl up, maybe as she was born on a farm:-

Timothy was a cat we had that was my husband's as a child who came to live with us, and passed on at 21, then there was Smokey who lived to 17. As a child in the Middle East cats did not live more than 3 max 4 years, no vets either, so I had many and lots of kittens too. Some pics:-

Timothy, who had a bad leg after a fight with a Whippet when he was 4, but still managed to bring me his wildlife spoils through the kitchen window.

Smokey, a rescue cat who was badly treated and scared of men, but eventually became a real softie with everyone.

Katy 2, Sooty & Heffalump

Katy 1

Tigger

I would bore you I had a a giant poodle as a child too, who loved eating chocolate and knocking over the Christmas Tree. No dogs now, but have looked after many for friends and relatives when they go away on holiday. Not with this cat though, she would not put up with a dog in the house. Then there are the hamsters...

sadly i'm allergic to cats. I do love theme. We always have a dog a mix of all sorts of dog races. But he was wonderful. Sjohny as his name was, always hated the window cleaner and bark as a mad dog to him on ore front and aft balcony. But then he dith this with al window cleaners. But encounter theme walking he was friendly as always. He was a legend in ore neighborhood. Everybody nows Sjohny belongs to the van Zeijl family. My most favorite memory of him was his happiness as one returns home jumping up and down before the door was even opened. You could always see him doing this looking trough the door window. Now 22 years after (at 16 years) he passed away, view months after my brother died. He is even so missed as all those who are not around today.

Frosty so sorry that Ragdoll have died i know how difficult it is. But found memories help cope with the loss.

Greetings Ben.

I'm sorry that I have no digital photos of Indy to let you see how beautiful he was. But I have the breeders pages from who I got him from. She lives in Wisconsin. When you open up her site go to the cats ikon and look at the Seal Point pattern- that's what Indy looked like.
http://www.ragdollcat.net/cats.htm Ragdolls have become a very popular breed.
Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Six and half year ago, our first cat arrived in our house. She is a Blue British Shorthair named Siemagic's Purrfect Maike.
Hal a year later, one kitten came from my daughter, a little tomcat named Yawahar's Buddha, also a Blue British Shorthair.
He died of HCM three years ago, in the morning of the day I was going to London to attend the London Ship Show.
As Maike was missing her playmate, we have been looking around for another kitten and found a little tomcat named Jos Verstappen. He is a really mixed breed. His mother was an Abessynian and his father seemed to be 3/4 Norwegian Forest.
We do have several photo-albums on-line.
Maike and Buddha can be found on
http://www21.brinkster.com/vdleek/Album.html
Photos of Maike and Jos can be found on the same website as well as on http://www.vdleek.nl/album1.html

Last week, both were away to the vet and it was very quiet in the house.

Vaccaro, what breed is your Caline ? ? She looks like a Blue British Shorthair or is she a Blue Russian ? ?

Willem

This is "Kitty", a Russian Blue. She was a 'pound purry' and I have had her for 3 years. She is my current cat in a long line of dozens, upon dozens, upon dozens of cats I have had in the last 40+ years. I have had several dogs too, but lots of cats. The most cats that lived at the house at one time was 13 (they were outdoor kitties). They were a lot of fun, each with different and amazing personalities. Sometimes I like my cat more than most people I now.

It helps talking about our pets here and I am glad to see that we have CTers that love(d) their cats as much as I do.
You might ask why the I named Indy-well he purred so loud that he sounded like a race car and when you petted him it was if he revied up his motor. Actually his pedigreed name was Indiana Ollie and was registered with TICA and AFCA.I did show him a few times and he attained Champion status, but he did not like being shown and the judges were intimidated(afraid of him) because he was so big so I discontinued showing
By all means attend a cat show, you will see a lot of different breeds and is very interesting. They also have all sorts of goodies you can buy your cat
Keep those pictures coming,it's GREAT.
Thanks,
Frosty 4

I guess you are refering to this picture :

It wasn't a cruise, Rich. It was a ferry crossing between French mainland and Corsica onboard Mega Express (1 or 2, I don't remember). Even if it was a day light crossing, I booked a cabin so that she could have a quiet place. And it was easier that way to install all her things (cat hygiene stuff) for the crossing.

Hi Frosty 4 - Sad to hear about Ragdoll.....just know how you feel, it's like losing a family member Never really owned a cat but babysat many for friends. For as long as I can remember there have been dogs (and some cats)in my life.
A cousin, now 90+ years old, to this day has a scar on his face from the claws of a cat that, I'm told, always slept at my feet when I was 'parked' outside in my carriage - a Collie slept between the wheels and a Cairn Terrier was also around. Seems cousin Doug, a teenager at the time, leaned in to see the baby - the cat, self appointed baby guard, took a real swipe at him. Stitches were required to close the wound! Doug and I have never been close or had much in common. :-)
