Well, I was pretty certain it was Inveraray, and a quick google not only confirms that but also tells me the name of the vessel - 'Arctic Penguin'.

I've visited Inveraray several times: there's a very good malt whisky shop there ('Loch Fyne Whiskies') among many other attractions.

I remember the views from the end of the pier across Loch Fyne were spectacular. I used to have a really good monochrome shot taken on that pier, but I can't find it at the moment.

Whisky? At this time of the morning There is a coffee shop aboard. Yes, sv Arctic Penguin, part of the Inverary Maritime Museum. She looks like she'd make for an interesting visit, after a few nips maybe of Loch Fyne Whisky [I do not like whisky].

Thanks to Scottylass for the photos.

Hello Tom

Well you seem to know your way round all the Scottish Ports, didnt take you long to find that one out Ha Ha.... It wasnt open when we were up last week, but we will visit again when its open. However we did manage to visit the Denny Tank Maritime Museum in Dumbarton, which was very interesting.

Cheers
Mary

Welcome back Scottylass - you first post since October 2006, I believe?

Scottylass and I go back a long way when Cruistalk was in it's infancy.

Pure chance, Scottylass, I'm afraid. We went through a period of visiting the west coast a lot - Fort William and Oban (twice), and I had separate breaks on Arran and Islay. So I have some familiarity with those ports and a few other places. And we happen to have called at Inveraray several times, including on even earlier holidays.

We haven't been to Scotland for a few years, I'm afraid. Well, we have - I was working for 9 months in Edinburgh in 2000 and had a flat on the Royal Mile for the duration of the contract, and my wife came for the weekend several times, rather than me driving all the way back to Yorkshire, starting at 4pm on Friday afternoon! I have very fond memories of my time in Edinburgh.

No, what happened around the late 90s was the advent of the budget airlines, of course - all of a sudden the Med & european cities became so much more accessible - and they rather took precedence. Then in 2005 we started cruising, so that's been our main holiday ever since.

Never mind - when I win the lottery we'll do a summer cruise around the western isles on Hebridean Princess. That will meet all sorts of requirements in one go!

Hi Malcolm

I pop in to CT every now and then when Pam gives me the nod Ha Ha....

I am afraid CT is a victim of her own success, just too many posts to try and keep up with, and not enough time in the day to do everything I want to do. So CT has had to take a back seat, but that doesnt mean to say I have lost my interest in ships.
There is no greater feeling than being at sea.

Cheers
M.

Hi Tom

Yes Inverary is a real nice area, and the drive down to Dunoon past the Holy Loch is gorgeous, there is always a buzz in and around that area, those little Western Ferries were going great guns.

I am waiting on a win on the lottery for a nice long trip round the Islands on Hebridean Princess too, although we did do it on the Cal Mac Ferries a couple of years ago, if you like peace and quiet and a step back in time I would highly recommend it. We keep seeing the HP in both Oban and Ullapool, have seen it so many times I think I must be destined to go on her. Better look out the plus 4's Ha Ha... and start saving!!!

Cheers
M.
