1967 April 10th, ANEK LINES was founded with its head offices located at Chania

1970 The company's first F/B vessels "KYDON" started servicing the route Piraeus - Chania

1973 The F/B's "CANDIA" and "RETHYMNO" started servicing the route Piraeus - Iraklion

Candia and Rethymno were built in Japan in 1971 as Central No.2 and Central No.5 for Central Ferry Co's Kawasaki - Kobe route.

In 1972 they were sold to ANEK Lines and renamed Candia.

The F/B's "CANDIA" and "RETHYMNO" sold in 2000 but some source says in 2001.

I have wonderful memories of most of Aneks' fleet when I sailed with them, many times, while I was living in Athens.

In particular, I liked the El.Venizelos. A comfortable vessel. Many a good time I had aboard this ship while sailing from Piraeus to Chania, Crete.

Many times in newspaper articles, they write that I live in Greece. Well, I did live in Greece for a while, but I was not born and raised there.

Sometimes "things get lost in the translation."

I can definitely confirm that the CANDIA and RETHIMNON (as officially named) were sold in early 2001 to Naif Marine Services, Dubai and renamed JABAL ALI 2 and JABAL ALI 3 respectively.

Ok, thanks for the link, funny to see ANEK doesn't know when they have sold their ships and what some of their ships were named! Not the first time, though... I can just keep on saying that her official name was RETHIMNON, see Lloyd's Register, Equasis and so on. 'Rethymno' is of course the Greek version, but not official when it comes to the ship's name...

See here:
http://www.stormpages.com/geo/x_alphalist.htm (In alphabetical order, also RETHIMNON can be found...)

The ship(or ferry) often delivers few months or even a year later after the sale.
You should clear the exact date for sale and delivery.

I'm fully aware of that, but because I wasn't the shipbroker in the deal, I can not give you the EXACT date, but I have a source who says that the sale was in January 2001 and delivery in March the same year.

Yes, and in this case Fakta om Fartyg has the right info. The selling price of these vessels was $2.5 million each. On the other hand, FoF has the names wrong, I will mail Micke about this. It's JABAL, not JEBEL.

Ferry Hamanasu was built in 1972 by Koyo Dockyard for Shin Nihonkai Ferry's Maizuru - Tsuruga - Otaru service.
She was the second SHK ferry to have domed bow after Suzuran Maru.
The sailings were incresed from two to four per week on the route.

In November 1975, The Route was separated two routes; Maizuru - Otaru and Tsuruga - Otaru.

She has been sailed on the Maizuru - Otaru service.

She was deployed to Niigata - Otaru service in 1984.

With arrival of " New Hamanasu " she was sold to ANEK Lines in 1987 and renamed Lissos.

The name "Lissos" is derived from the ancient harbor of Lissos where once there were natural mineral water springs. An Aesculapio can be found there, a Doric temple dedicated to the ancient god Aesculapius. In it's heyday Lissos was such a wealthy city, that it use to manufacture its own gold coins. Today this vessel is dedicated to its rich history.
