For those who have an interest in working on the ships, you might want to listen to this talkshow episode with Neil Maxwell Keys as the special guest who called in all the way from the UK. Neil has an extremely helpful website and a book about how to get a job on a cruise ship. I wish I had this resource when I was searching for work on the ships back in 1989.

Barry, when did you work aboard the Song of America? Did you work with Jim Yoder?

Jim would have been on Sound or Lights. I worked with him on the song in 1996. That was his second time aboard. I have noticed that he is a Facebook friend of yours.

I don't think we worked together. I do have a lot of FB people who use to work on the ships however.

I am amazed how crew members and ex crew members stay in touch with each other, mostly via Facebook. A very strong bond exists among crew. Just one of the reasons for me to return to sea. I'll be joining the Prinsendam this Tuesday. Should be a lot of fun.

I think part of why crew stay in-touch is because they live and work in such unique conditions. There's a bond that is set into place that is unique. I'm still in-touch with many of my friends from when I worked on the ships, and the last time I worked on the ships was 1992.
