Program Coordinator is a busy desk job on the ship. The Cruise Director and Hotel Manager are the ones who write the daily program. Your job is to do the graphic design and layout of the daily program. You also follow through and make sure it gets to the printer in time each day to meet the deadlines. Eventually, the program can become duplicatable with few changes, especially when the ship cruises on a regular weekly schedule. Usually what happens is the Cruise Director layout the rough draft and the text he wants in the program, the PC will do the layout on the computer and create the document, then the completed document is emailed to the printer in a PDF, where it is sent directly from the computer to the printing press electronically to be printed. On smaller ships the Cruise Director does the layout and graphics himself then sends it to the printer...eliminating the need for a Program Coordinator. When your deadlines are met, absolutely you will have plenty of free time to go into port. You will have more graphic design duties than just the daily program, however...which include flyers, menues, shore excursion information, busines cards, and even some stuff for the Captain and officers. You will certainly be busy, but you will have time to enjoy some of the sights. Becuase you're in the Cruise Director's department, you can hang out in passenger areas. Go for it!
