As part of the range of material produced to coincide with the launch of the new Queen Elizabeth, there was one book, Queen Elizabeth - More than a ship by Maurizio Eliseo, which stands out above all recent commemorative editions. The book is produced for Fincantieri and contains within it an absolute treasure trove of wonderful material and imagery. Naturally the construction of the Queen is fully covered, with cutaway diagrams, a kind of kit builders drawing, and magnificent photograph after magnificent photograph.

There are images throughout the interior, images of sea trials, images from the naming ceremony. There is a chapter on the Monfalcone shipyard and a section on liners made in Italy. This is also a celebration of much of Fincantieri and Italian shipbuilding. There are numerous images of other Fincantieri vessels, a wonderful chapter on funnels showing the links between the Michelangelo and the Grand Princess class funnels and a selection of never were drawings for a Vista Queen.

There is some mention of Fincantieri's pitch for the QM2 project and altogether 718 illustrations over 320 pages. I loved the one of cars driving through Mauretania's funnels for instance.

This book is very strictly limited edition, 320 pages, numbered edition, translated into English by Anthony Cooke. He mentioned it on the list some weeks ago but one truly must see this book to appreciate it. If you can find it and are remotely interested in Fincantieri, Queen Elizabeth and all things in between, do whatever you can to get a copy. Truly wonderful.

I also have a copy of this book, and it is fantastic, the same high quality as Maurizio's other books! An excellent photo documentation of the ship's interiors and construction. Also great photos of the classic Italian liners!

If you can find it on-line, the going price seems to be £69.95 in the UK, and around $100 in the U.S.
