Just saw the movie 2012 and they had a giant cruise ship called the Genesis and they also had GIANT arks that would put the Oasis as a lifeboat. Graphics were amazing! One of the most epic disaster movies I've seen in a long time.

I was not aware that 2012 is actually a movie about ships. Of course, I always hoped that films about ships would be 'en vogue' somewhen but I never expected such a box-office hit on that topic.

P.S.: Don't forget the United States (or is it America? ) model at the begin of the movie.

The 2012 date is derived from the ancient Mayan Calendar which supposedly comes to an end on Dec 21, 2012.

I wonder if that date is on the Gregorian Calendar (the one we use) or the older Julian Calendar. If the latter, then that's really Jan 3, 2013. Hey! We might get a 13 day reprieve.

Yes, I noticed that SS United States model at the beginning of the movie....I was getting all excited when I saw it, and my wife had to say..."calm down".

Then there was an actual cruise ship in the movie....well not an "actual" cruise ship it was a CGI model of a large cruise ship called the Genesis. At one point there must have been some sort of wave while the ship was docked, and the ship nearly capsized at the pier...it was very exciting.

Then the arks were over the top HUGE. That was fun to see.

ITs a cheesy, predictable, silly film. But fun and visually stunning. Paint 'Genesis' black and you've got the Poseidon capsize for sure.

The arks looked remarkably like some STX project/ concept ships too!.

Yes. It's amazing how one can spend so much money and have such bad dialogues or such a stupid plot. However, a 'trashy' movie like 2012 probably has to be like that - and sometimes it's the time for a 'trashy' movie. I would say it was not nearly as bad as I expected - I had to laugh a lot.

The wife and I went to see it at a drive in last night.

It was kind of fun to be able to sit there, turn down the radio and start coming up with our own lines for the really cheesy parts.

BTW we both loved the Woody Harrleson character.

Spoiler part folks.

When they opened the doors at the end of the movie my wife said "Next cruise I want a balcony like that"

Great

I wish I read your comments about this dog of a film before we went to see it yesterday. The only reason I suggested it was the weather in Palm Springs was'nt great and it was the only film playing at the time plus I thought it would be entertaining. It was 2:50 long and I felt every minute.
