I just ordered this new model from Scherbak Models of the Solstice. It is in 1:1250 scale and is a waterline model, which is the scale I collect. It looks so detailed and beautiful, not too similar to the on board models. Of course the price is higher as the quality and scarcity require. I also have the Millennium by Scherbak too, which I love. Here are a couple pics from his website of the Solstice, first with the Millennium and then with all his models from different cruise lines. Mine should be arriving in about a week and I am very excited for it.

And then a relative recent picture of my collection.

Not a real advertisment, as I only buy models from Scherback. I wish I received some financial gain, but rather I just would like to see the models sell well enough that more get made so I can buy new ones of ships I want. So in the end it actually ends up costing me more money...

Received my Solstice model today. Alexanders models are quite accurate and it is great he is developing some of the larger newer ships, currently missing from the other 1:1250 scale lines. Great job!

Russ,
Please review this response from Joe . I think I,m right in mentioning that this is advertising for the model company.

Frosty,

I think you missed my point. By posting the link to his site on CT you are advertising the site. He is not paying for that advertising. Many other companies do pay for advertising on CT.

If he wants to have a link back to his site he is welcome to join the forum here and participate. If he is too busy to do that, or would prefer not to, fine just don't expect free advertising here.

Simply posting a link to another site violates the no-advertising rule we have in place here. If I make an exception for one site I will have to do so for others.

Hi all!

As the Equinox docked in Ashdod last mounth we went on a ship visit, and I fell in love with this ship. So I ordered a model from Scherback, 1:900, arrived few days ago... fantastic!!! (Solstice)
I reccomand to anyone - not so cheap but worth it, (an onboard model cost arround 25$ but it is less accurate and low quality, you get what you pay for)

As I understood from Alexander, the 1:1250 was sold out, only 1:900 left. its interesting, but it seems that pepole prefere the lower scale....
maybe beacause its more compact? or cheaper?
anyway I think both are very similar and reccomanded

Regards, Elad

I wished I could afford Scherbak models. I've got a friend who goes on cruises and buys me one on every trip, so I'm happy to get what I can. It may not be entirely as accurate; but I can afford it. I love the models you post on here Thad. I'm glad you can get it and I'm not jealous. Don't have time in my life for that.

Thad,
You have an awesome collection. I've been trying to buy/collect the ships that I've traveled on over the years. I didn't know that they even made some of them until seeing your photos. Specifically HAL's Westerdam/Homeric. Who made that? Do you know where I might be able to get one? Could you post a photo of her?

Do you know if anyone made models of the:
Olympia/Regal Empress
Pacific Princess

Now that Mercator is no longer producing liner models do you know anyone else who might have made an Oceanic (Home Lines)? I'm looking for one of those too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey David,
The Homeric and the Westerdam were made by a company called Sextant, which unfortunately went out of business years and years ago. Both models come up very occasionally on ebay.com and especially ebay.de. The best place to begin your search for models is on the 1250 message board. Post your queries and model "want lists" there, and you often will get a response for a particular model.

1250 Message Board

You can see the Sextant Westerdam here

And the Homeric here

As to the other ships you mentioned. THe Pacific Princess as modeled by Carat / CSC as the Sea Venture, and is normally available, though not cheap as it is very detailed.

Hein Muck / Degen made the Olympia, but that was a while ago. They are slowly re-releasing different older molds under the Wirral brand. Here is Olympia with her "Greek" sisters Arkadia and Queen Anna Maria

I would definitely ask on the 1250 board for an Oceanic. The only two companies I know that made her are Mercator and Hein Muck. Good luck with your collecting.

Thad. those are beautifull!!!
The pacific Princess is excellent too

Scherbak mention in his site that the classic ship.de models are too detailed to its size..do you find it right?

Well the railings are probably a little over scale, but in general I like the level of detail that CSC provides. The picture of the Homeric shows a CSC model of the Italia, so you can get an idea as to the level of detail.

Best
Thad
