Both of which are reasons why I've just booked a 12-night cruise in September 2008 on Ventura from Southampton to the Canaries!
Well, it looks fun...
As I have said before I used to have a 'fear' of sea days (how bored would I get?). However, I still believe that you will learn to relax and enjoy then. I now look forward to them after or during (even better) a busy itinerary.
It's so great to just to board a ship at a UK port and bypass all of that airport nonesense. The holiday statrts when you walk up than gangway.
If you have never been on a mega ship you are missing out, likewise 6263866 if you have never been on a smaller ship you are missing out too. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Most of us here would conclude that a climbing wall, an ice rink and the company of 3000 other people are not essential ingredients for a good cruise. Small ships offer a purer cruise experience: they are about the ‘ship’, the ‘sea’ and the ‘people’. That's how it all began.

The smallest ship I have cruised is Sea Dream 1 - the largest, Navigator of the Seas. And I have to say that I have enjoyed almost every single ship - big and livley, small and sedate and everything in between. I have simply reached the conclusion that I wuld rather be on ANY ship than landbound at home....
But I'm reading lots of good things about the 2nd gen "Grand" class ships that Princess are using (Diamond, Sapphire & Crown) - Ventura will be a close sister to these.

For a terrible moment Tom, I thought that you were going to use the banned 'C' word!

I feel the exact same way. From the SILVER CLOUD (my smallest) to the FREEDOM OF THE SEAS (my largest) I've enjoyed them all. The large ships have something the small ships don't, and vice versa. Basically I'm happiest when I'm at sea.
