Today i had a freind pop around , who had just returned from cleaning up his late auntys house.He had come across a 1965 deck plan of the Oriana , and it is in mint condition.Without giving it a 2nd thought he saved it and gave it to me.This is the 1st time something like this has ever happened to me.
What was the best "Liner" hand me down that has ever been passed onto you?.

Funny how you said that, as i know a guy who collected broken glass off the deck from one of QM2's broken deck door windows from one of her early trips , when she went though that hugh swell.

Anyway the most interesting thing I got (unintentionally) from my uncle was a cut away brochure of Willem Ruys. He got it as a kid and when he moved it was in a box with other stuff that he gave to me.

I also got a couple of nice things via the mail from people I met on the internet, a pile of old Costa brochures, postcards etc.

For me the best gift I ever received was when I was 9 years old, 50 ships postcards given by my father...20 years later this passion still grows and for the moment I have a ships postcards collection containing nearly 32.000 official company ships postcards.

Other favourite gift, well...it was the official crest of the naming cerimony of the CANBERRA...made for the shipyard workers...back in 1961...

The construction/launch booklet for LUSITANIA.

Three photo albums chocked full of unpublished shots taken during cruises on WILHELM GUSTLOFF,...complete with a hat ribbon w/the ship's name, a signed postcard of the captain, and a postcard of Wilhelm Gustloff himself (these were, oddly enough, sold on board). I also have a color portrait ashtray from the ship, menus, programmes, etc.

Two portrait spoons from OLYMPIC, one enameled the other with the portrait acid etched in it's bowl.

An enameled silver spoon from TEUTONIC....paid $2.50 for that one!

One of my wife's old teachers gave me a color portrait button from AQUITANIA (her father sailed on the ship),....since then, I have found the matching ones for MAURETANIA & LUSITANIA.

An original 1912 tissue deck plan of the four-funnel FRANCE. I also have an incredible gilded cover interior booklet of her,....pre-war.

"Ozean Express", the gold and red covered commemorative book for the BREMEN of '29,...signed by her captain, Leopold Zeigenbien (I think I have that spelled right).

I use to have a glass panel from one of QUEEN MARY's light fixtures (from her first class lounge) but I sold it to a lady in Glasgow who's father help build the ship. I only charged her $100 but I thought it was more important that item be returned 'home' if you know what I mean.

I could go on and on (like I haven't already) as this is my favorite topic relating to liners and cruise ships....

I was given first publication 1912 edition book Stories from the Titanic Disaster, published months after the sinking with photos in the book I had not seen before. I had it autographed by Bob Ballard.

Nick Backo, one of the original designers of the SS United States sent me a couple of post cards that came out before the BigU's maiden voyage with a one cent stamp on it. He also sent me a bunch of baggage tags from the ship.

I was also given a rare painting of the Britannia, Cunard's first steam vessel.

My great aunt gave me a brochure (a book) of the Caronia in her Green Goddess make-up.

Someone gave me a tin that has the Queen Mary on the cover..supposedly from onboard the Queen Mary during her trans-Atlantic days.
