I'd be interested to hear how various members first heard about Cruise Talk and joined the board. I was Googling some information on LEONARDO DA VINCI a couple of years ago, when I first discovered a reference to C.T., and immediately joined.

So how did you discover C.T.?

Sorry, Rich, I honestly cannot remember. I
suppose it was a search as I don't think I
was told about CT from anyone.

I was looking up pics of QE1 and found CT. There are amazing pictures of her burning in the photo section and came across the chat section.

I don't remember the details, but I believe I was doing searches on ships or cruise lines and I came across to Cruise Page. The first time through, I didn't really noticed Cruise Talk, until a few searches later when I came across a thread.

I googled cruises and ships after seeing the SSUnited States in Philly early 1997. I started with cruisetalk as I became more web literate after my landmark August 2000 Rembrandterdam cruise.

I think I was searching for 'ship reviews' using Alta Vista (my fav then) and the rest is history.

For the record I think I was one of the early members. Those were the days when a thread might on involve a couple of cruisetalkers and was only 2-3 posts long!

Come to think of it I found out about CT thanks to David, some years back I noticed someone (David in this case) linked to the Rotterdam V model pictures on my internet site. I traced back the link to that specific CT topic. After reading the forums for two weeks I decided to join the fun.

I was Googleing cruiseships, and bumped into CT.
Have been here almost every day since then.
Not so often as a writer, but are reading much.

Sincerely René.

As I often do I was looking for new cruise sites to view and found this one listed in a site that mentions other sites with cruise related information.

I figured I would check it out to see what new information I may come across.

I came across CT, travelpage and also the pages of most CT members again and again during the last years when browsing the Internet.
I hesitated a long time but one year ago I decided to join the forum - which I have to admit it rather addictive .

Being surrounded by computers (iny my office, in the laboratory or at home) I can easily follow the discussion - actually there are often times when I 'just' have to watch a machine - perfect for typing lengthly postings.

I really enjoy this forum - it is a very convenient and also entertaining way to stay 'up to date' - and actually it was the first opportunity for me at all to communicate with people who are also interested in ships. (...beleive it or not, but most of my friends are not even aware of the fact that I am interested in ships... )

I was searching for info and pictures of cruise ships with Alta Vista or Yahoo! (Google was less known then) in early 1999 and then reached Travelpage (the webmaster can be proud of his referencing tactics for search engines).

I lurked during one or two weeks before joining and yes, as Malcolm says, there were only very few members and activity was rather scarse during that new-born period of CruiseTalk. Some topics were updated 2 or 3 times a week only.

Besides great talks and knowledge exchanges regarding our passion that passenger ships are, Cruise Talk allowed me to quite improve my English writing skill (especially thanks to two benevolent members here, one Italian and one Scot who will identify themselves if they're reading). So Cruise Talk has some scool teaching benefits too!

I don't post too much. I enjoy reading the banter posted on cruise talk. I found the site when I typed Titanic in the google search engine.

I found out about Cruiseserver.net in the summer 2003, I was trying to find out more about Celebrity Mercury, typed it on google.com and got Cruisesever and have been using for cruise reviews ever since, cruise talk was something I looked into for a while but never really singned up intil about a year and a half ago, something that I'm glad I signed up for.

somwhere in 2002 or 2003 i looked for ships photos in Yhaoo.com and then i entered a link of the cruiseserver photo gallery. a year later i decided to join the forum and i'm glad i did it!
its the best forum i've seen so far. for compartion, besides loving ships i'm a fan of ABBA (swedish pop group) and i joined the forum there as well but somwhat it seems to me that things there just dont flow like the way they are here...you cant upload pictures on your messege body for example. here you can and its makes this forum to be so interesting .
to me "talking" here to pepole who loves ships like i do in a friendly enviroment is almost like a big cocktail party on a ship's lounge

That's what makes Cruise Talk so interesting and valuable to many of us here. We're all ship lovers, but typically, the people in our lives (spouses, family, friends, co-workers) cannot relate to ships, and we don't have anyone to talk with about them.

Through this forum I'm sure that everyone has had much enjoyment and also learned a lot during their time here.

Just browsing around tonight and found this thread - seems I've been around for some time Yeikes! hadn't realized just how much time!!!!!!

Seems to me 'sympatico' called me one night and mentioned it - I didn't ask about the 'displayed name' thing (didn't know about it!) but pulled up the URL - read a bit and found the content interesting and decided to take a flyer on it. Suggestions as to 'displayed name' were given and I chose my favourite colour 'Green'.

Never looked back since then - no flannel/flattery here, this is my favourite board. I do look in on other forums but this is 'home'.

I'm still happy to sign in as 'Green'
