"cruisers on the run"?
Passengers from which cruise?
It turns out she most likely does not have SARS.
Here's a summary from CBC:
quote: VANCOUVER - A Canadian cruise ship passenger remains in hospital after being ordered ashore half-way through a week-long Alaska cruise after showing some signs of SARS. But doctors say it's unlikely the elderly woman – who remains in an Alaskan hospital – has contracted the disease. She has a history of health problems. But because she recently changed planes in Toronto, she fit the definition of someone who could have SARS. If she had changed plans in Calgary or some other Canadian city, she wouldn't be on the SARS suspect list.

The media is not helping with their scare tactics.
Green - it was the Volendam and she was air lifted to Juneau. Probably had pneumonia.

Toronto is getting a very bad rap on SARS - sure we have several cases but they are well contained and all present suspects are within the Medical Profession - the people who have worked selflessly day and night for many weeks now.
We’re long overdue for a real clamp down on Media reporting.

Peter you have my sympathies re your staph infection - I've been there - not fun!
Now your post - The visitor - Has it been confirmed that he does have SARS? I believe the patient suspected of infecting him did not in fact show any signs of SARS until 4 days after the American’s visit.
Whitby - To date SARS has not been confirmed. - over 1,000 people - approximately 400 are Medical Professionals, the others are elderly and/or in long-term health care facilities - have been quarantined. How much more can be done when the disease is only SUSPECTED?
Hospitals and Doctors offices are dangerous places – always have been in my opinion! I only go there when it's really necessary!I had an experience this weekend after visiting my GP on May 21 for a 'script' refill (really necessary under our Health Care rules!)- took me no longer than 5 minutes. Out shopping, I came home to find 3 messages on my service – spaced at 1 hour intervals – each message requested me to immediately call my Regional Health Centre. About to do just that, the 4th call came in - someone had been in the Doctors Office on May 21 and had presented SARS symptoms on May 24 – he was quarantined for a full 10 days, until June 3 – he did NOT HAVE SARS - I, (and in-house family members) and everyone else who had been in the office on May 21, were being followed up on to make sure we had no symptoms. Thank God, neither I nor my husband have had any problems.
Toronto is not being 'flip' about SARS - far from it - visiting a Doctor here, you might well be quarantined if your staph diagnosis is anything less than clear cut!
The US Media (and other countries) seem to have forgotten the existence of the word ‘SUSPECTED’ when mentioning SARS.
I continue to feel that Toronto is getting a bad rap! You Vancouverites should perhaps be saying, "There but for the grace of God go we!"
And oh! what about Monkeypox? Heaven forbid that that spreads.
