Gotheborg is a full-size, hand-built replica of a legendary early 18th century sailing ship that made epic trading voyages to Cathay and the Orient.The mission of the new Gotheborg, being built in a place called Terra Nova, is to recreate those voyages and serve as a reminder in turbulent times of the virtues of peaceful trade.
On June 6, Sweden's national day, its hull hits the water, having taken more than a decade to build.
Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustav will preside at the launch, with his wife, Queen Silvia, christening the ship with a customary bottle of champagne.
But it will be more than a year before the maiden voyage, in October 2004, when the 1,300-ton three-mast vessel sets sail for Canton in China, with a crew of about 25 plus 50 volunteers.

The launch of Gothenburg III went well. I watched it live on TV. It was a fantastic moment when she hit the water. The launch was also broadcasted to around 450 million people in China. The ship has rent a great interest in China.
