Hi,

I'm looking to correspond with folks who work for or have worked for the cruise lines. My wife and I, both massage therapists, are considering trying to get work on a cruise ship. Of course we have TONS of questions about life on board. which are the best lines to work for. Is there anyone out there willing to discuss these and other issues with us? Or does anyone know of any online forums specificlly for cruise lines employees?

Thanks!

The cruiselines have spa concessions. You will need to contact Judith Jackson Spas, Mandara or Steiner for shipboard work as massage therapists.

Why do you want to work onboard a cruise ship?

thanks for the info ocngypz. And Cruisemole, I guess it sounds like an interesting way to spend a couple or three years. I'm just beginning to do the research, but we have been very careful to live a life that allows for a lot of freedom, and travel is one of our biggest obsessions. As I say, I'm just beginning to do the research...but here's what I understand so far...Lots of hard work, good compensation, a way to put away a lot of savings, occasionally a chance to get off the boat and play at the ports of call, decent food, tiny rooms, 3 to 6 month contracts with 1 to 3 months between gigs. We don't for a second expect to have a passenger's experience, but it just sounds like an interesting lifestyle to taste for a while.

Cruisemole, have you worked for any of the cruise lines?

bones221,

I've worked on the ships and can say that it would be tough to find work on the ships as a married couple and be able to stay together. Steiners has an extensive college you must go through before you would ever be considered to work on the ships and you must be a Steiner... there are a "few" other cruise line that don't use Steiners but use some other service, but again it would be difficult fore the two of you to work together as a married couple.

I wish you good luck, but I think you are going to find that it's not an easy job just getting the job. Work on cruise ships is very competitive, there are hundreds of people lined up to work on the ships and not enought jobs for all. You may want to consider the more obscure cruise lines, and smaller cruise lines to work as Massage Therapists....that would be your best bet.

I agree. Many ships only have one massage therapist anyway so to have you both on board would be difficult. Getting a job on board is also very difficult it's not like you just walk in and apply. On the flip side though if you do somehow get a job for the two of you it would be a great way to save money and see some interesting ports of call.

I didn't want to start another similar thread so I will just continue here.

The university I attend, each summer before school gets out, has job listings through certain companies. Last year they had listings for a company that hires for the cruise ships. They were looking for Youth Counsellors and other cruise ship jobs. Having worked at summer day camps in the past, I was interested in this job. I am considering doing this next year and if anyone could provide any information it would be greatly appreciated! (i.e. job requirements, pay, number of days...etc)
