It was like the boom immigrant times of the '50s and '60s with all four slots full on Melbourne's Station Pier. Alongside the Tasmanian Ferry Spirit of Tasmania, were Carnival Spirit, Pacific Jewel (ex OV2, AidaBlu, Crown Princess) and Pacific Pearl (ex OV, Arcadia, Star Princess).
I headed down to Port Melbourne on a balmy 28 degree night last night and enjoyed fish and chips on the beach. Photos can be found here Photo Album
So next year when there are 4 cruise ships, where does the 4th berth? have to tender perhaps?

I would think a fourth ship would dock over at Webb Dock. QM2 berthed there when she called and another ship was at Station Pier. A shuttle service was used to take the passengers between Webb and Station .
Webb Dock will be a container terminal and I believe it is still under construction. The Ports cams have a link to it.http://portcapacity.portofmelbourne.com/pages/webcams.asp
