One of the ship broker sites is reporting Melody has been sold. Anyone know to whom?

According to MarineTraffic she is now the QIN and has Indian registry. So, unless MSC is trying something really new, this rumours are true!

She is south of Sicily on her way to Port Said as QING [need a G - doesn't this sound more Chinese than Indian?]. Her owner and manager is showing as Sahara India Pariwar, who appear to have a number of 5* hotels and own >40% of Force India. Not quite sure why they would want MELODY.

The reports seem horribly confused at the moment. She is clearly underway passing Malta on her way to Port Said. But one site says she is Melody while another says Qing. The one that says Melody says she is flying the Indian flag and the one that says Qing says she is flying the flag of Panama.

MSC had a high price on her for a long time so either they gave in and let her go for scrap or someone paid the price and is planning some type of meaningful use for her to justify the high price.

She is definitely QING and registered in India. Marine traffic has been switching names during the day but this is only old info coming through the stations.

Perhaps this has something to do with the Royal Asian Cruises which was announced in October and said to be looking at 2 ships, one of which was Gemini. Goa could be for a shipyard refurb.

Royal Asian is not the buyer and says they have nothing to do with her. They pointed out that the name Qing is Chinese for Melody and part of a well known Chinese folk musical.

Vesseltracker is now showing her IMO as invalid -- whatever that means. Maybe she is going rogue off the grid.

I think you are looking at an old erroneous page where the IMO must have been corrupted 1,280 days ago. The real page is here. It is a mystery as to why India Sahara purchased her, not the standard of their hotels. Time will tell.

Thanks. Not sure why I got the invalid when I searched the IMO number.

So when did she leave Italy? Appears she should reach Port Said by tomorrow.

I don't know what day she actually left. She was at Fincantieri by 12 Oct and her funnel markings had been removed and renamed there by 14 Nov. She has not made Port Said yet, only been doing about 9 or 10 knots whenever I've looked, but she's in bad weather at present.

Indeed the MSC Melody is sold to India for approx. $ 20 milj. Please visit http://www.nedcruise.info/msc%20melody.htm. After two failures to sell it now seems definitive

$20 million would be a big surprise since the asking price was only $17 million at last report. Originally MSC wanted $60 million.

If the tracking data is current she has been lingering for some time now on the north side of the Suez.

Did any more news ever surface on her fate?

According to the AIS she went to the UAE and is now heading back to Port Said.

The destination info is out of date and relates to 30 Nov. She is presently sailing south along the Indian coast [or was 12 hours ago] and appears to have passed Alang by.

Interesting thanks. I see Vesseltracker updated. She seems to be taking the slow boat to India route. Still will be curious to see what comes of her.

She was not a real favorite but I was on the maiden voyage all the way back in 1982!

Recent shot of the QING (ex-MELODY), looking rather neglected at the shipyard in Mormugao.

That's sad seeing her sit there like that. I visited her on her first trip to Port Everglades. And I also sailed on her a couple of times when she was with Premier Cruise Line. I rather enjoyed the ship. I'm glad I got a lot of interior/exterior photos of her then.

I was on her maiden voyage as well as her first preview in NYC. She was a nice product of her time but the Homeric just 4 years later put her to shame.
