Looks like it is now official, the Oasis of the seas will be doing public transatlantic and European sailings surrounding her fall 2014 dry dock.
  • 9/1/14: 12 night eastbound transatlantic from Ft. Lauderdale to Barcelona Spain.
  • 9/13/14: 5 night round trip from Barcelona Spain
  • 9/18/14: 5 night round trip from Barcelona Spain
  • 9/23/14: 7 night sailing to Rotterdam
  • 10/30/14: 2 weeks dry dock
  • 10/14/14: Non public sailing from Rotterdam to Southampton
  • 10/15/14: 12 night westbound transatlantic from Southampton to Ft. Lauderdale
Would love to do one of these transatlantics but with Quantum of the Seas coming out in November/December that takes priority. Allure is one year newer so hopefully they'll repeat this with her in 2015. Haven't sailed her yet and since it's not the first it may even be cheaper then. Depending on how this goes it could also be a sign of things to come fro Oasis3. Still not sure about these ships in the rough seas over there though. I know they can handle them structurally (look at her last transatlantic for proof) but the Aquatheater shows are often canceled due to rough seas in the Caribbean.

We will be on OATS on 6/15. This will be the first time in the early part of hurricane season. We have never had a rough sea in the Carribean.-numerous cruises, usually Oct/Nov. still hurricane season but never had issues then.
I would think doing a Fall crossing one might see some rough seas.
Interesting on the 2 week dry dock. RCL takes care of their ships!!LOL.

I'm wondering if she will have her Central Park greenery removed prior to heading for Barcelona?

This is the first time a ship with a park like this has had a dry dock. Royal Caribbean mentioned that the trees would have to be continuously trimmed (saw it on our sailing every morning and it was only sailing 4) and replaced when they get too big. Could the dry dock include the removal of Central Park and the installation of a new one?

Good point!

America has rules about the import and export of certain plants too!

Are the plants actually imported to the country where she is berthing?

I don't think that this would be necessary - she is not going to Turku during the winter for that dry dock.

Indeed. We just cruised Hawaii on Pride of America and they have an agricultural inspection on the way in and out at the airport

Ernst i wouldn't say the plants are being imported but there is certainly potential for them to spread any non native plant diseases to the mainland or transport non native insect species. In reality it's probably a non issue but that wouldn't stop a bureaucrat from blocking it.

It seems like everyone is looking at central park more in terms of the legality of transporting the plants. I was more looking at it in the same way as carpet. During dry dock all the carpets tend to be replaced and a lot of furniture is reupholstered. Could Central Park being replanted be part of a dry dock? The plants are continuously growing and they can only be on the ship for so long before growing too big. They are always trimmed and dead ones are replaced but trees seem more complicated to replace than is possible during a normal turn around day.

She will be drydocked at the Keppel Verolme yard in Rozenburg, near Rotterdam. They previously did the stretching of the ENCHANTMENT OF THE SEAS back in 2005. Obviously, they are very proud to have received this assignment and I just hope that they will organise a nice event for the maritime community in Rotterdam. Just imagine, standing at the bottom of the drydock, looking up at this giant!

The itineraries are now available from Royal Caribbean. I have to admit that they are rather disappointing but it's likely a result of her size limiting the number of ports she can visit. The Transatlantic should not take 9 days but most likely they want to give her plenty of leeway to sail around any storms.
