Hello and good evening.

I saw that the beginning of the ship refit of Destiny has begun and the one photo posted to the cruise news article.

I did not find a webcam link on Carnival - I was hoping to see some feed from the refit? Are there any sources out there covering the rebuild that we can take a look see?

Just wondering ...

No web cam that I am aware of.

Here's a video released a week ago showing some of the beginning works...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAi02Yo7uhk

I've also found some pictures here and there on the internet by doing a Google search under several different descriptions as Carnival Destiny, Carnival Sunshine, Fincantieri, Trieste, etc.

HERE is a recent picture with her and her 'barracks ship'

And a blog with some a few pictures:

As of yesterday they have cancelled her first two post-refit cruises. This was received yesterday from a friend who was booked on her:

It's always a shame when the first sailings for a ship (new or post refit) get canceled since most who are on those did it to be the first. But I'm glad Carnival did it. I hope they promote this a little bit and give more detailed explanations of what the changes are. Two weeks is enough to do a full drydock so I'm sure they'll have a lot of new safety enhancements and redundancies on her. She'll likely set sail as the safest ship in there fleet.

Edit: Just looked at those dates again, 12th and 26th are canceled so this is way more than 2 weeks, it's 23 days.

That's ironic , Carnival's video and press releases boasted how they were doing: "... there most major refit ever, in only 49 days"

Is that the old 'Song of America' in the picture? Or what's her name now? Olympia something?

Yup, that's the older Song Of America. She is now, or was a Thompson ship. Not sure where she is headed after this assignment.

LOUIS OLYMPIA is super. Probably outlast CARNIVAL DESTINY/SUNSHINE I sailed her last July, see this thread.

Many thanks for the great photos steeplechase, it's interesting to see the work taking place. Were the passengers made aware before the cruise that this was going to happen? A lot of disruption and unusable areas.

Pam

We were not made aware, but were watching the cruises before us and they were sanding the deck weeks before we boarded. They never really cut off any usable deck space as they worked in small areas on different days. They would use a couple of the elevators for moving mostly deck chairs. Alot of deck chairs were thrown away we watched as some of the dock workers carried them home with them once we got to Spain. The rest were put away on deck 6&7 forward and wrapped. There were only 2000 passengers onboard to begin with. They had an open Bar night giving away top shelf, only lasted an hour but probaly one of the greatest nights of the cruise.

Not attractive! I wonder why they didnt just take off the whole area above the bridge and make her more aligned to her newer sister ships

It's all about increased revenues with balcony and suites cabins.

They should have rebuilt the upper structure like her new sisters. I think someone outdid the NORWEGIAN EPIC....
