Owner? Operator? Designer? Shipyard?

I was on the Brilliance of the Seas and the Eclipse recently, and noticed that the Brilliance had a deck 13 but the Eclipse didn't. I checked other RCCL ships and some have a deck 13 but others don't.

It looks like NCL has them, but Carnival companies don't.

Any ideas?

The cruise ultimately approves everything. So no matter who designs what the cruise line has the final say so to cross out, edit, etc. anything because afterall it is their ship.

Some of it might be due to local cultural or beliefs but sometimes it is traditional. For example since the Mardi Gras was the old Canadian Pacific ship Empress of Canada, she came with an Empress Deck. In 1972 Carnival spent as little money as possible to refit the ship so she still had an Empress Deck and when it came to the later ships they kept the name at first for similarity in the product and today it is just traditional have an Empress Deck on a Carnival ship.

A lot of times it has to do with if the deck contains cabins. That is most likely why the Brilliance had a deck 13 while the larger Eclipse didn't even though they both come from the same company.

The idea of 13 being an unlucky number, and Friday the 13th an unluckly day, including the myth of the black cat being a devil, was the postulations of the schizophrenic pope Clement VI in the 14th century. At the time there were no meds.

The world was considered flat until science proved otherwise. Copernicus went to jail for contradicting the bible's error in the constellations, and proving it with science. None of our cruiseships would be here if not for the heretics.

It is amazing how people doubt science but fall far illogical mythology.

The ships of MSC Cruises has the deck 13, but Costa ones don't. Even this two companies being focused on the italian market.
