Beside other reasons why this is not very likely to be 'Sunshine': It simply looks like a 'photshopped' version of the other ship (Freedom of the Seas class) in the same picture - e.g. how the two funnels are arranged is simply not 'realistic'.

No that is not Sunshine or anything else on the drawing boards at RCCL.

An insider confirmed to me that Sunshine has a single funnel mid-ship similar to Legend of the Seas.

Their is a lot of concept art available for Falmouth Jamaica that show different ship designs. Most of it comes from back when the Oasis Class was new and Project Sunshine wasn't even known yet. They were made by a third party company that does this stuff and only this stuff. They were give the information they needed for Falmouth but would not have any information on other Royal Caribbean projects since they would not have been hired to make art for those ships yet and most likely never will since RCCL probably wasn't the one to hire them. You can check out this link for a higher resolution PDF file:
http://falmouthport.net/plans/20100426_Master%20Plan_legend.pdf
Since this was released in April 2010 it's more likely that the large ship (way to big compared to Freedom to be Sunshine) was actually done to show how big a ship could be and still dock their while not having any Oasis of the Seas graphics available yet since it was likely made in mid 2009.
You can also see some other art here:
http://hughdarley.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/hugh-darley-president-idea-d esign-falmouth-jamaica.png
and
http://hughdarley.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/historic-falmouth-jamaica-port-renderi ng.jpg
and IMO this image shows the closest resemblance to a possible Sunshine ship. It's 1 deck of extra balconies than Freedom, has the hump more centrally located, a more Radiance like stern, and appears to have more upper deck levels and glass.

I was hoping the design for the Sunshine-class would be radically different, like what Celebrity Cruises did going from Millennium- to Solstice-class. It appears it will be nothing more than a pumped up version of something they already have, not that consistency is bad thing.

I wonder how RCI fans will feel? Similar to how some of the 'Princess loyalist' feel about the new Royal Princess - nice, but underwhelming?

I have seen a - very low resolution - rendering of the "Sunshine" class of vessels, even though I'm not sure how current it is.

The ship appears to have a forward Solarium section similar to the "Oasis"-class vessels. The bow appears similar to NCL's "Norwegian Breakaway". There appear approx. ten continuous decks of balcony staterooms and - surprise - no promenade. The vessel also appears to have a fairly low number of ("Oasis"-style) lifeboats. The stern looks fairly "cut off", similar to "Norwegian Epic".

Again, I'm not sure how current that rendering is.

Best,

Raoul

Hi Raoul, are you able to share or is it secret?

I think there is a demand out there from RCI fans who do not want to cruise on something quite a s big as Oasis.

Ten decks seems like a lot. The Oasis has a total of only 8 continuous decks of balconies and then an additional 1 or 2 depending on how you count the Loft Suites up top. The Freedom class only has 5. With Sunshine's capacity difference from Freedom I could see 1 more but it's hard to imagine any more than that.

When you say no promenade I'm assuming the Royal Promenade? I personally would be surprised if RCCL was able to pull of the capacity they are claiming in the size of this ship and still have a promenade. RCCL has historically tested out things on other ships before doing them for real (the grass on Solstice class ships helped prepare for Central Park) and RCCL's biggest thing right now is applying the Royal Promenade concept to a traditional atrium setup.

What if RCCL made a Celebrity Solstice style promenade area with inside balconies. They could do it off center on along one side of the ship like this:
Deck 5: Promenade Deck (stores with windows onto the lifeboat deck)
Deck 6: Promenade Balconies (with glass wall)
Deck 7: Promenade Balconies (with glass wall)
Deck 8?: Promenade Balconies (with glass wall)
If their targeting colder climates I'm sure their is a market for people who would love a balcony with an ocean view but want to be able to use it while it's freezing outside. With this you have a private balcony that looks across the promenade at a large window that stretches from atrium to atrium.

Freedom Class:
Deck 5: Promenade Deck (Stores)
Deck 6: Promenade View
Deck 7: Promenade View
Deck 8: Promenade View

Oasis Class:
Deck 5: Promenade Deck (Stores)
Deck 6: Promenade Deck 2 (Stores and view cabins)
Deck 7: Promenade View

Celebrity Solstice shop walk:

I, as a Royal Caribbean fan, prefer to cruise on the older ships on the fleet. Of course, Oasis of the Seas is amazing, and everything else. But I think it's time to Royal build something like the Radiance Class vessels. Even to can use this ships on more markets.
