I saw on another site that Oriana is at the yard in Germany for her aft rebuilding and interior remodeling. The ship will have a sponson/ducktail installed which hopefully (along w/the new cabins aft) won't damage her good looks.

The extra cabins are being fitted where the kids facilities were, so hopefully they will only be where the windows on each side were, and won't look much different.
As for ducktail, hope it will be Auroraesque...

Let's hope so, as we know Aurora has one of the best looking ducktails in the industry!

Just what does the new duck tail do? Increase aft end bouyancy perhaps? Is this mandated by new laws, or rather a ship company decision based on efficiency? Or......??

Grant,

as for "Splendour of the Seas", the addition of the balconies on deck 6 makes her rather top-heavy, so the ducktail is required in order for her to continue to be compliant to mandatory stability standards.

Hey,

I tried to take some pictures of the Oriana in Drydock for you. I haven't had the possibility to get a further look of the ducktail but I will try the next few days. Well I don't know but I have seen a lot worse ducktails out there. Hope the best.

From the looks of it, the ducktail could have been far worse. The next test will be to see how the shipyard builds the new veranda cabins aft. Hopefully they will be the same as the existing verandas-flush w/the hull.
