Whats wrong with HDR? it's a perfectly good way to get a good photo!
I believe the first one is. But I agree with SalamisFiloxenia (Tom...)

Nothings wrong with HDR when done correctly ad these are. My comment was pretty much in jest. No offense meant.
BUT, I'm also a purist in a sense. I think that a good photo is not achieved in post editing but by the raw image from the camera. As soon as I add photoshopping to my photos I feel as if I cheated a little. But thats just my view.

I feel the same way. HDR pics were incredibly stunning when people first applied the technique (still are I suppose), but it's been done way to often and now feel played out.
Kinda like when a really cool and desirable car gets introduced and everybody bought one, after a couple of years when you see the same car at every corner it just loses that something which made it special. Still a cool car (as those are nice pics!) though.
HDR can be a good way of getting the right image what a camera cannot capture. The human eye is allot better than a camera and can see things in a perspective that a camera cannot.
I have a small example of my own on a suite in Dawn Princess.
Example 1.
Example 2.
As you can see one is over exposed and one is under exposed.
Here is the HDR image. It is not perfect but a good example of how it can improve an image. If I had time I could enhance it better.
