I'm not sure if this site allows postings such as this, but the deal is too good to not bring to the attention of ship lovers!!
RCI has very significantly reduced the price of the Brilliance of the Seas upcoming Suez Canal repositioning voyage. Now from just $699 for 18 days, sailing from Barcelona to Dubai on November 03. There are not many trips throught the Suez, and most are very expensive, as they are part of longer voyages. The air add on is only $1300ish from the west coast.
So if the Suez was on your bucket list, check this great voyage out! I'm looking for sure.

Does that $699 include pirate insurance and a kevlar vest?

Even though RCL has many ships in the Med area, this is one place I would NOT want to travel right now. Maybe that accounts for the low pricing.
It has been stated that Cruise ships are the #1 target for possible terrorist attacks.
Somalia and it's pirates and terrorists could attack a ship at sea very easily.
Suicide bombers could do a bombing like what happened to the USS Cole. But at sea not in port.

I don't think a cruiseship is in danger of bombing like USS Cole because that is not what terrorists are looking for right now, I think pirates are one treath because they just have nothing to lose and on the other hand there are the terrorists who in my opinion now are more likely to seize control of a cruiseship to get friends out of prison or demand departure of troops from countries such as Irak and Afghanistan.

Those risks can't be that much of a threat as almost all the vessels undertaking world cruises pass through the Suez; almost 20 vessels this winter from most of the major cruise lines. (Cunard, Costa, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Thompson, P & O, MSC, Louis) I've heard from very reliable sources, that the cruise lines do retain the services of those very capable of fending off "pirates", and at a steep price. Apparently the military of many countries do provide protection for their nationals on a "for hire" basis. Most such cruises do not sell short segments, and that is why this deal from RCI is attractive to me.

No need to get hysteric about this, otherwise it would not have been put on sale. Would have loved to do this if I had the time....

Don't get so hyped about media reports and follow your gut feeling. would a US based cruiseline really offer a saling like this if they are not prepared and it wouldn't be considered safe enough for US marketed passengers?

Sounds too good to be true and guess what - over in the UK it is. The best lead in price advertised over here is £779.00. I'd really like someone from Royal Caribbean to explain this as the $US price works out at £427.00.

I agree 100%. You've said it all.

F4 ?

Ouch!
So RCI who has its main customers market located in the USA would be irresponsible and stupid enough to sell that cruise? And the US governement to not issue a reserve about these sales to their citizens?
To me you're words show two things:
-1) You've been intoxicated by either easy and out of reality politic methods (propagenda, demagogy, excessive fear on populations and on US citizens about security by some of your politics and their ideas), either by biased media reports.
- 2) The terrorists have won on you.

I for one who would LOVE to have the means to do that trip and meet and know better people of that area. I had once crossed the Suez Canal and the Red Sea (+ sailings within Oman Sea) in 1987 when serving on an aircraft carrier and it was a memorable experience (in spite of the fact we then were in actual war conditions and procedures because of the Iran/Iraq war).

I have heard of the term 'rip-off Britain'. That may explain it.

Celebrity will also be sending Solstice through the Suez, when they send her downunder.

26-Oct-2012 World Cruises & Sectors 44 Nights Solstice, ex Barcelona to Sydney

The cruise will be offered in segments as well and the early pricing is quite keen. A few folk from down this way have all ready booked .
