As Grand Princess heads to drydock and will undergo a massive refit ,I wonder if they will have a web cam to show progress on removal of the sky lounge and the rest of the back area of the ship .
Anyone have a link????

Princess will no doubt have their blog up and running on Grand Princess as this massive alteration takes place. Will keep an eye out for the link and pass it on unless someone beats me to it.

This is awesome that Princess is showing us the refit. Interesting to see what life is like while the ship is in a ship yard, and everyone involved with a refit is doing.

Maybe not a movie, but there are loads of pictures of the refit on Princess' Flickr account:

I never cared much for the GRAND PRINCESS, but I do always find it fascinating to see how yards go about such a refit/rebuild.

When the entire structure broke free of the hull all I could do was say "oh, wow!". Actually very sad to see it go. It was by far my favorite part of the ship during my time aboard her.

super busy at that yard, with Grand Princess, Veendam and Maasdam all in for fairly major refits.

Look at Veendam's bow!

From my understanding, she was damaged in a storm of Chile this past winter, and they need to completely rebuild part of the bow.

For what they have done so far on GP I would like to sail on her again soon. As mentioned in my Reader Review most of the stuff that has been redone was in need. I assume the carpet will be replaced as it was worn and faded. Probably the last thing.

I would call Princess and ask about the deck plans. I'm sure they either have them already or will wait to post them on the web page once the refit is completed.

Seems a little strange the new deck plans are not released, especially considering there are new cabins involved.

People are booking cruises on GRAND PRINCESS now and in the past, and you would think they would want to see the new layout of the ship and the location of the new suites.

Seems counter productive to wait and release the deck plans. The work being done on GRAND PRINCESS was planned months and months in advance. No reason to wait on releasing deck plans.

The casino is being moved and there will be new ocean view suites in that former area. Have a look at the deck plan for GOLDEN PRINCESS and you will see what I mean. I believe the same type of work is being done to GRAND PRINCESS.

Looking at the old deck plan (GP) the casino -which is being redone does not have any staterooms on that deck. It would seem odd to place suites there?
I heard on the videos that the casino is in the same place. Just redone. I wish Princess would update the deck plans to clarify. ?????

There will be new ocean facing suites on Deck 6. Whether or not the casino is moved up a deck or will remain on Deck 6 and shrunk I don't know.

Again, just have a look at GOLDEN PRINCESS deck plans to get an idea of what is being done.
