Today QM2 and Queen Elizabeth met in Sydney. I was able to get photos of them both docked.

It was quite a crowd drawing event. Fortunately the photo gallery is again working for me and I will upload photos shortly.

Never get tired of seeing pictures of Queen Mary 2! Thanks for sharing.

The second picture a great reminder of just how far the bridge wing extensions stick out over the side of the ship. Looking forward to your other pictures!

Great photos, thanks. I now have fond memories of both these ships but the big one is my favorite -- she is really special.

As for the comparison between QUEEN MARY 2 and that naval ship (HMAS MELBOURNE maybe?), once when I was on board we berthed next to an ARLEIGH BURKE-class US destroyer in St. Kitts. She looked tiny!

It is behind the Melbourne. They are older Navy ships. Frigates, part of the US Oliver Hazard Perry class.

Queen Elizabeth album is now made.

Because Sydney harbour is so curvy, the Naval base is the only dock big enough for QM2 as it cant fit under the Harbour Bridge.

I suspect it can fit at circular quay where the Queen Elizabeth is, but I dont think it has ever been in Sydney without another Cunard ship. According to map measurements the dock looks long enough for QM2 to dock there. It would be great if it did as it would be the best photo opportunity ever.

We have just enjoyed 6 wonderful days on QM2 from Sydney to Auckland.
We joined her in 2004 for her first trip into the Med, and I must say , she wearing very well indeed.

Fellas, you know Cunard is interested in a triple rendezvous, all three Queens together in Sydney. Seeing how successful past encounters have been and how Australia's love affair with Cunard continues to grow - Australia is the third largest market equal to Germany - they are now hoping that in 2013 or 2014 there may be an opportunity. It all hinges on Sydney improving its facilities. In otherwords, finding places where to dock all three ships! Sutho I'll bet you can't wait.

That would be great to happen. None of those ships can fit under the harbour bridge and Sydneys shore lines before that are not straight enough for long enough to build anothe dock. Even Garden Island naval base they are lucky to get QM2 there as most of the docks are not long enough. The only place I think they could build another dock is possibly the old HMAS Platypus close to Kiribilli on the North Shore.

Chances are that any future terminal for large cruise ships will be built in Botany Bay rather than Sydney Harbour. There just isn't enough available space east of the Harbour Bridge and the real estate values are too high to justify using any available space (realistically this could only be the Naval Yards if they were retired) for a comparatively underutilised facility.

The problem is there is only one wharf at Garden Island that is large enough for cruise ships.

If you look at my final photo of all the warships in front of QM2, there is not much room plus the warf bends and changes direction in front of QM2 to go at a slightly different angle than it is where QM2 is.

There has been talk of moving the Navy to Newcastle, but I cant see that ever happening.

Botany Bay would be a good idea for one if they can find an area on the north side giving direct access to the city.
